Description

Travellers Pencil Case

Whether you are exploring the unknown, going on holidays, needing a flashy pencil case for your daily needs or wanting to gift a very personal, flashy present, this case will serve you well.

Designed with a print-in-place hinge, a latching mechanism and snap-n-click connectors for the end caps, it does not require any additional purchased parts.

Due to its print-in-place hinge, it only requires minimal assembly and, under the right conditions, can even be printed on a holografic plate.

Its decorative end plates and large surfaces allow endless possibilities for personalization.

A few words on filament selection:

Feel free to customize, tailor and experiment! A few classy starting points may be:

  • PLA White Marble
  • PLA Silk Copper

    or

  • PLA Silk Gold

  • PLA Black Walnut
  • PLA Silk Gold

    or

  • PLA Classic Birch

  • PLA Metal
  • PLA White Marble

  • PLA Dual Silk Midnight Blaze
  • PLA Silk Gold

A few words on assembly:

While the main body of the pencil case does not require any assembly, care must be taken in placing the end caps. These are not symmetric and are hence not interchangeable. The short distance between the clip cut-out and the opening case side goes to the front.

Updated 08 Dec 2024:

A few words on personalization:

The new print profiles facilitate customization by including placed text for the outer cover and internal side. This can be edited by:

  • Selecting each text object in the Slicers Object area:
  • Activating Text editing and replacing the text:
  •  Occasionally, Bambu Studio behaves in a somewhat buggy manner regarding text so please check the placing of the text carefully.
    • If the changed text appears in a different location or with a different orientation, use the yellow cube to coarse position with the mouse. If the text is turned, use the “Angle” in the text editor to re-align correctly.
    • If these bugs occur, you will need to fine position the text again:
      • Select the “Pencil Case Upper Cover” in the Objects, click on the “Move” icon and note the Y-coordinate
      • Select all text objects, click on the “Move” icon and enter the noted Y-coordinate
      • If Text protrudes from the surfaces, change all Text Z-coordinates by the Text thickness (0.5mm) to achieve a fully embedded text.

This was a fun project for me to learn about print-in-place hinges, latching and snap-n-click connectors. Please consider Boosting to keep the fun up and my motivation high :-D
