Description

Information

This model is part of the Solar System Lithophane Planet Lamp Collection.

For mounting options and the other lamps, please see the collection page.

The main purpose of this page is to provide STL files for remixing or slicing yourself.

Print Settings

  • Print in PLA or PLA+
  • Use the Arachne Perimeter Generator for more precise printing with better details
  • If you use Arachne, set the minimum line width to 75% to avoid holes!
  • Set wall count to 5-6 to obtain a solid lamp
  • Set seam position to aligned
  • Activate Outer Brim Only and set the Brim width to 5-10 mm
  • Set seam position to aligned

Be aware, that slicing and printing may take a very long time. Especially the Arachne Perimeter generator is VERY slow. The high quality stl files can take up to 30 min. to slice. Due to the long slicing times, I am not even able to upload Arachne print profiles (slicing timeout). I do provide print profiles with the classic Perimeter generator though. My recommendation is, to slice it yourself with Arachne!

Filament

Filament matters. A lot! Depending on the Pigments in your filament, your lamp may have more or less contrast or a warmer or cooler color temperature. Additionally, you can choose colored filament to create Planet Lamps with specific colors. The picture below illustrates this:

I tried several different types of filament. My favourite is Filament PM White PLA + (not the Lithophane version). All models in the pictures were printed with this filament. It creates a lot of contrast and a very wark light. I recommend printing a Filament Swatch to test how your filament will look as a Lithophane. For reference: all Planet Lamps have a minimum wall thickness of 0.6mm and a maximum wall thickness of 2.8mm. I usually print the Lithophane Calibration Tower by American Filament.

Buy me a Coffee

Creating this collection of planet lamps took more than two years and I used over 20kg in Filament for prototyping. If you like my work, please consider supporting me. In the future, I plan on releasing a small scale version of the planet lamp collection for mobiles or fairy lights. Your support will help me to make more models available for free. Thank you!

Finally with the recommended filament. A1 - Filament PM PLA+ white - much more dense than other filaments. Nice design.
