Description

Here is an M4 nut and M4 bolt that can be reinforced by inserting a 2mm wire/12 gauge.

You can find the wire here. https://amzn.to/411vdsR

It is almost as strong as 304 steel when combined with the wire. Simply measure the wire to the bolt and cut off what you need. Insert the wire into the bolt and make sure it is flush with the end or slightly depressed so that you wont scratch yourself from it.

This is a free way of replicating steel bolts for 3d parts that cost you less than a cent.

I recommend using stick glue on the plate for a firm foundation to counter quality issues:    https://amzn.to/3Z60SIj

I like the idea of printing threads, but they kept snapping due to brittleness. I have not inserted the wire, so will need to do that to have the full effect of this design. When printing a single one, the thread came out perfectly. When printing four at a time, the thread was distorted, I suspect due to the extruder jumping from one to the other.

Are you using pla+? Did you insert the 12 gauge wire? This design depends upon the wire being inserted or it’s basically trash. It has the same properties as steel with it and can take a load far heavier than regular pla+ but without the 12 gauge wire inserts there is no point in printing this design.

Strength Issue:can be weaker, would suggest upping the walls or infill when printing

This design requires the 12 gauge wire. There is no room for upping the walls. If the wire is inserted, vertically the screw can take a 50ib load which is equivalent to steel. It’s very fragile and not worth printing if you don’t have the wire.
