Description

Lockheed C-141 Starlifter, 1:400 scale.

Remixed from docean's wonderful Thingiverse model noted above (which in turn was also a remix). Remix is scaled to 1:400, filled (previously hollow) and split for better printing of the wings, engines, and less support. Dowels connect the main fuselage, while plug connections connect the front and tail to the fuselage.

Printed in Bambu PLA Matte Gray. Detailed by my airplane crazy son with acrylic markers.

Would like to print this on an X1C for the museum I volunteer at (the YC-141B is one of our displays) but having a lot of trouble not having support material get in the way - keeps putting support material in the centerline fuselage ports where the dowels should go that I can't get get out of there cleanly. Support painter in Bambu Studio doesn't seem to let me omit supports from those holes for the dowel plugs. Any tips on how you got this to print?

Hmm - I think I know what you mean. When I print these, there's always a bit of support that blocks the holes, but I've had decent luck just poking and prying them out with the sharp tips of a set of nippers. I am no expert here, being a new P1S printer owner myself. Maybe if, under SUPPORT you switch tree(auto) to tree(manual) on the fuselage halves, and paint them on the external surfaces where they would normally be generated on the engines? When I sliced it with those settings, I wasn't seeing any supports generated in the dowel holes. Just be careful to paint external supports where it would normally add them when slicing tree(auto). Hopefully this solves your issue (and doesn't give you more!).

I think it's a Bambu Studio problem - I have been experimenting with the tree (manual) and trying to right-click to block it from drawing supports in the dowel holes, but it seems to ignore that no matter what I do. I can get it to block supports on other parts but not those three holes almost touching the build plate for some reason. I will keep at it. Thanks for trying! And thanks for adapting the model!

Welp, since there are pegs on the front and tail ends, the dowels add support but wouldn't be completely necessary - you could still glue them together and still have a nice looking model (maybe nicer as the two halves might fit a little closer together!), Anyways, sorry I couldn't supply a more helpful solution. Good luck! Please post a pic if you get it working right!
