Description

This is my minimal approach to a spooler where the filament reel rolls on edge roller bearings. If feeding a 3D printer, it should work smoothly and well.

To note, the spooler arrangement does not work well under high speed, especially with little filament remaining on the spool. The light reel can derail.

You will need four 608 bearings as rollers. the bearing are held in-place in a screwless design. Four 3D printed shafts hold the bearings in-place that push and click into position.

My print is made in Bambu Lab PLA Tough Lavender 1.75mm filament, with 0.2mm layer height and 15% infill on a Bambu X1 Carbon printer with an AMS. Print supports are not required.

I hope that you can find this print useful, too. If so, you can support my work by buying me a coffee …

Thanks for sharing the photos. A clever mod. I also like the dry box you've chosen. Care to share the box details?

Many thanks for the container info. When I need any more dry boxes, I'm definitely going to give those containers a try. Another Aussie! G'day.

Thanks for sharing your experience and for the photos. Interesting that you use printed bearings. I guess the loose tolerance printed bearings would be okay in this scenario.

Could you please upload the screws individually for printing? One screw slipped away during printing…

Thanks for taking an interest in my spooler. You can find the individual parts uploaded as STL files. Please see attached screen shot ...

With reference to the attached screen shot, from your PC/Mac browser, there's a down arrow (circled in red in the screen shot). When selected you are presented with a list of available downloads. Select the "Download STL/CAD Files" (second circled in red) option to see the option to download the "Shaft.stl" file. I'm unsure whether you can do the above from the Bambu Handy app. Please reach out again if the above proves to be too challenging.

those little cylinders look like what comes out of a fidget spinner

I've seen the 608 bearings on a fidget spinner, too. I guess that they're cheap and they'll add a bit of weight to the spinner.

works great but a little bit too narrow for jayo-spools

Thanks for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, spools come in various widths. I had considered an adjustable width version. Maybe in the future.

it’s just a few mm and then it would fit all kind of spools.
