Description

This Christmas decoration was inspired by the fidget spinners that are really popular. They print flat but can be turned to make a pattern, or kept flat if you prefer.

This 3 ring variant is a remix of my 4 ring ornament available here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/707500#profileId-637590

***NEW***

I now have a gift box especially designed for gifting these decorations.  Please see the below link for details:

Please feel free to check out my other designs on the same theme, including some with customisable names.

I’ve had a lot of questions from people asking if they can get a license to sell these decorations commercially. I’ve set up a Patreon for those who wish to. PrintWorthyUK | Patreon.

Instructions for changing the name and re-colouring within BambuLabs:

First you need to go to ‘Objects’ and select the text shape.

Then, using the ‘Text shape’ tool you can change the text. You can also change the font size here if you need to.

I like to ensure the thickness of the text is 3mm. You can do this from the ‘Scale’ menu option but ensure you untick ‘uniform scale’ first.

The last thing you will want to do is reposition the text. You can do this by eye but I like to check get the X axis position correct. To do this you need to use the ‘Move’ tool.

Just check that the two components have the same X-axis, and if not correct it. Just click on each object from the left menu and use the ‘Move’ tool.

You will notice that the name has lost its colouring since you changed it. The instructions for re-colouring it the same way I did are below.

Re-colouring

My print profiles all include a cross section in a different colour. You could recolour individual parts of the decoration if you wish, but it significantly reduces waste, filament changes and time by merely changing the filament twice during the print.

Start by selecting the entire object and removing the painting I did for the print profile, using the ‘Erase all painting’ button.

Then, if you want to match my original settings, you’ll want to change the tool type to ‘Height Range’ and change the Height Range to 2.0.

Select the colour you want and move your mouse over the decoration to apply the paint. I always try to aim for 2.75. The more you zoom in, the more control you get over this number.

Hit ‘Return’ in the top left corner and you’re ready to print.

Aaaaaah these newbie’s are so happy! We used your description to change the names and the thickness of the inner circle and it worked! We did not mind the extra ‘poop’. We asked you earlier for the color of the filament and we used the rainbow filament we already had. And the silver silk. We are happy with the result! We put the color you used for this model on our wishlist 😁

That gift box looks 🤩🤩 I sent these two by mail and put them on a card. They were so surprised by the gift! My uncle celebrates his 79th birthday today. My mother was at the party this afternoon and she had to help because they didn’t see it had rings you can turn 😁🤭 I should have written that in the card 😂 They thought they received flat Christmas balls!

These are beautiful and came out looking fab using 3-colour filament. The only slight issue I had was that it wouldn't stay open when trying to hang it on the tree, so I designed a little cap that locks the three rings 60-degrees apart (https://makerworld.com/en/models/909787#profileId-870510). The cap will lock the ring in the open or closed position and will even fit in the Gift Box attached to the bauble if you don't have too many baubles in the box. Have a Boost for a lovely design.

Thanks. I have uploaded it as a separate model, but probably makes more sense for it to be linked to the bauble.

somethings not gone right for you then I’m afraid. very few report problems. they should lift off the print bed and spin freely. bed adhesion issues could cause this. might be worth cleaning your print bed and try slowing it down.

Print bed cleaned. On top and bottom it is just not rotating and stick together. I broke two in my anger and fed up with printing

It turned out beautifully I didn't have silk filament, so I used regular and made it monochrome Still not bad👍🏽😎
