!!!! IMPORTANT UPDATE: AMS Lite Top Mount ISSUES !!!

!!!! IMPORTANT UPDATE: AMS Lite Top Mount ISSUES !!!

!!!! IMPORTANT UPDATE: AMS Lite Top Mount ISSUES !!!

When using Bambu Lab's official AMS Lite Top Mount and printing at the upper limits of the Z-Axis, the tool head will collide with the spool adapter. If you plan on printing a model that will max out the Z-Axis, please discontinue using the adapter on the front side.

!!! This adapter is NOT compatible with enclosures !!!: To be able to fit a large majority of spools, the shaft needs to extend well beyond the Rotary Spool Holder. So much so, that it extend too far to fit into most, if not all, enclosures. If you use any type of enclosure, I do not recommend using it.

*** NEW FEATURE - RELEASE BUTTON***

12/31/24 - I uploaded a new Release Button design. It is compatible with version 1.1 and higher. If you have already printed the v1.1 of the spool adapter, there is no need to reprint it.

11/16/24 - I uploaded v1.1 - I made a few adjustments and added small holding tabs. If you are using Bambu Lab's official "AMS Lite Top Mount" I highly recommend using version 1.1 or higher.

___________________________________________________________________________________

I was tired of needing multiple spool adapters to fit all my different sized spools. This is the simple, yet very effective solution I came up with.

This is version two of my Original Prusament Spool Adapter (https://makerworld.com/en/models/219084#profileId-237944). I designed it to fit spools that are either too small to fit the AMS Lite (i.e. Prusament 51mm) or spools that are too BIG (i.e. Geeetech 75mm). It SHOULD be able to fit most spools with center holes between 51mm and 75mm.

I have uploaded a new Release Button, it is compatible with your existing V1.1 adapter. I highly recommend printing in the same EXACT same filament as the shaft, type & color. It is CRITICAL that your build plate is CLEANED and at OPTIMAL adhesion!!

Spool Adapter Recommended Print Settings:

  • 0.20mm Layer Height
  • 4 walls
  • 15% Gyroid Infill
  • Either PLA or PETG, both work great.

Release Button Recommended Print Settings:

  • !!!! IMPORTANT !!!! - Clean your build plate before printing!
  • 0.20mm Layer Height
  • 4 walls
  • 15% Gyroid Infill
  • Inner and Outer Brim- Bottom surface patter [ Concentric ]
  • Either PLA or PETG, both work great.

How to:

To use the adapter, simply place the spool onto the shaft, tighten the nut and then slide it onto the AMS Lite. I have a quick demonstration below. To install release button, make sure the button operates freely before installing. With the shaft pointed down, slide button into shaft, pressing the CENTER of button firmly. Press until the button CLICKS into place.

If you are using Bambu's AMS Lite Top Mount, you may want to try my Upgraded TPU Damper. I found with a more robust damper, the Top Mounted AMS Lite does not shake as violently. It can be found here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/823084#profileId-766391

[PLA] v1.1 Button - 0.2mm layer, 4 walls, 15% infill
I'm new to 3D Printing. Great Model. Enjoyed the functional Button. This was my first bigger Print (besides the calibration and two smaller models). It worked really well. Printed on A1 mini with Jayo PLA+ filament. It looks like I still got some smaller issues with calibration; There are some small defects in the thread, but only the side facing the middle of the bed and the upper (seen while printing) windings. The filament didn't stick. (See pictures). Maybe some temperature settings? Also on the shaft there seems to be some extension of the thread but also mostly the site facing the mid of the print plate. I added some picuteres of the issues, so maybe someone can help / explain what I might change. (Thanks in advance) I calibrated the printer and also the filament with all the calibration prints.

I'm glad you like the model! Have you tried running a temperature tower to see what's the best temp for your filament? Also, you may want double check your belt tension, here is a link to the wiki https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/A1-mini/maintenance/belt_tension

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I ran the temp tower through orca, that's how I picked the temp for the filament Profile. I'm printing the AMS Lite Spool Adapter atm again. This time a different color, still JAYO PLA+, seems like the same issues occurring. I will check the tension Belts tomorrow. Do you know of any good test model that might give me a quick look of resulting prints? When I printed benchy multiple times it always looked good, no obvious issues.

One more thing to try, is printing it at a lower speed, I think someone was having similar issues and this solved it. I'm not too sure how far you want to calibrate your filaments, but here is a really in depth guide to calibrating with Orcha Slicer: https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/wiki/Calibration . I personally only use a temp tower and Bambu Studios stock flow rate calibration.

This is a great model. However, when I tried to pull it off, it broke the Rotary Spool Holder on my AMS Lite. It also takes some effort to remove the spool from the adapter. This is a great model, but when you are removing it from the AMS Lite, make sure to PUSH it off, and NOT pull the rotary spool holder. The creator says they are making a model with a button, and I that would also help with the removal process. (The creator was very cooperative and helped me to resolve the problem.)

I am really really sorry that happened to you. I am currently finalizing a design for a button to assist with removal of the spool from the AMS Lite. Can you please send me a few pictures of the Rotary Spool Holder stuck inside the spool? Also when did the ring break off? Was it while trying to remove the spool adapter?

I would like to see this new design! The ring broke off while I was attempting to remove the adapter from the Rotary Spool Holder. I hope these pictures are what you are looking for: (Also thanks for being so cooperative with me!)

I consistently encounter the same error; what could be causing this?

What filament are you using? Slice the model, then go through the different views to see if the banding is caused by speed, flow or fan settings.

Superb modeling. These fit EXACTLY as they should on the AMS Lite, the button feature works great. They took a little persuasion to get the buttons all the way down the shaft but I guarantee I just needed to tweak some slicer settings. Seriously, fantastic work on these. I can't be complimentary enough.

[PETG] v1.1 Button - 0.2mm layer, 4 walls, 15% infill
NOTE: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SUNLU S4 AMS LITE MOD. That said, this is not the fault of the designer. The model printed absolutely perfectly, the release button works perfectly, everything was perfect! That is, except that this adapter is somewhat longer than the AMS lite rollers, thus the AMS no longer fits inside a Sunlu S4 dryer :( I couldn't find a way to remix and shorten it to fit because of the large screw-on piece at the end. Again, not a fault of the part! 5 stars for the intended use!

Thank you very very much for testing it out and letting me know. Also, I really appreciate you not giving it a bad rating because it would not fit into the enclosure. I will definitely be updating my description. Thank you again!

Absolutely this is a really nice design, especially with the release button. It worked so well on the stand-alone AMS and not having to worry about lots of vendor-specific adapters was a great idea! I really wanted it to work for me, but no big deal. I ended up printing a Geeetech-specific adapter that fits inside the spool thus doesn't bother my dryer enclosure. I wasn't expecting you to update your description, honestly I felt a little bad even leaving the comment the way I did, but I figured if I could save someone else the disappointment it was worth it. Thanks for sharing such a great design and being receptive to the feedback!
