Description

This design was inspired by vintage ceramic Christmas tree lamps. You can customize the look with two styles of bulb, and any combination of bulb colors you like. There are a star and snowflake topper available, or you can just have a plain tree top. The default bulb profiles includes layouts with 2 colors of bulb and 4 colors of bulb combos. Note there are separate profiles for the two types of bulbs, due to the number of objects in each. Each includes both long and short bulbs of each color. The long bulbs are for the upper layers, the short ones for the two lowest layers. The trees I printed with Bambu Basic PLA. The bulbs are printed with Bambu Transparent PETG (except for the bright red which is Novamaker). Other transparent filaments should work as well. Normal PLA does not work well for the bulbs if you plan to put a light inside. It should work for an unlit decoration though. You can reduce infill on the bulbs if not making the tree as a lamp.

When cutting the bulbs from the sprues, cut close to the bulb with the flat side of a flush cutter.

Due to the fairly low angle overhang, you may encounter some minor "zits" or strings on the underside of the lower levels of the tree. Dry your filament to minimize issues. Use a flush cutter to remove any strings, then a few quick passes with a kitchen butane torch can clean these up.

After inserting the bulbs and tree topper to your liking, assembly with the light module is as follows:
1) Thread the USB cable through the holes in the bottom of the bottom plate. Then press the light into the bottom plate.
2) Insert the bottom plate into the base of the tree.
3) Twist the bottom plate clockwise to secure.

Enjoy! I'm excited to see what color combos folks print!

I wonder if you color each one with a marker how it would look? I only have clear petg at the moment also. Surely there is a way to color it to give us some color?

Sunlu, I would recommend finding a lighter blue though. The green and red the light comes through great but blue not as much.

I will re-print with supports but this is more than a few stringers. Filament is dry, less than 10% humidity, and in the AMS for a few days. Live in a very dry climate.

Wow, yea that's no good. I printed 5 of these in 3 colors, 2 Bambu and 1 generic and never had more than a few minor zits. Almost seems like the layers are not adhering well to each other, maybe try a temperature tower to see if tuning is needed there?

I have printed 3 of these now; 2 in Mistletoe green and 1 in Bambu green. Both of the mistletoe green ones looked similar to @denverguy 's. After the first one printed I put my filament in my dryer for the night and it still came out stringy. Tried one in Bambu green this afternoon, with filament that has been in my AMS for a week or so, and it has come out similar to yours with the zits and very few strings. @denverguy when you added supports how much extra time did it add? I like the mistletoe green color better for the tree.

Looks like you need to use a different filament profile... eek! I printed in PETG and had no issues. What profile are you using, what speed?

Whoa there's filament that changes color depending on the temp you print it at? I need to look into that.

Love the Christmas tree! I did modify the printing of the bulbs however, I used transparent petg but I did it at zero percent infill so that the light could shine through them better, I think it worked well. Great job on the design

Had to give this a boost based on nostalgia alone. I know exactly the inspiration model you are talking about as my family had one when I was kid 30+ years ago. Thanks for that.

Saw this print and instantly reminded me of the Ceramic Christmas Tree my grandmother had when I was young. Thanks for the print brought back great memories! The bigger ones are scaled to 190%

Printed in Polymaker Translucent PETG - Green and Red. I would love a bigger version of this model!

Nice! It should be possible to upsize it, but I'm not sure the LED module would be strong enough to illuminate a larger version well.

What about slightly thinner walls? I would be more than willing to do test prints for you. I do for designers all the time! I showcased your model on Twitch last night!
