Boost me for free!

A desiccant container to place inside filament reels when they are being stored in plastic bags. Also suitable for use in the AMS even whilst it is in use.

This is a reworking of:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/406169#profileId-308075

except that the desiccant holder is specifically sized to fit snugly inside genuine Bambu Lab filament reels. It also has a perforated base as there is minimal clearance along the sides to permit air to enter there. Finally a set of three tangs has been added to lightly grip the sides of the reel.

Holes in base and slotted areas are sized at 1.5mm width so suitable for desiccants with a granule diameter of 2mm and above.

Prints with support enabled but if orientated as in the supplied profile the only support used is in the lid pinch area and this is easily removed. It looks almost solid when printed but if you pry with, preferably, a pair of fine nosed pliers the two support areas usually detach in one piece and with minimal force.

If printed correctly no post processing is required. The lugs on the lid are rotated by 60 degrees to lock so even if it moves slightly the lid is unlikely to detach.

Do NOT overfill the holder or you may have difficulty closing or opening the lid.

Note that the holder should be inserted in reels with the perforated base first and lightly pressed until the lid end is flush. To remove the holder you should continue to push from the lid end until the holder emerges from the reel. If you push it in the reverse direction you could potentially break the securing tangs.

Model has been modified to print more quickly.

nice print, easy to take support out, going to test with some new filament

Thank you for the review. The photo showing the lids with one part way through support removal is one I should have done myself!

I printed a batch of 6 - if there's any problem with this model, it's that the lids can stick a little or get silica fragments in - but there's not a lot we can do about that... ...or is there? :-)

In a previous variant I got comments that the lid was a little loose (which it was) so I made it tighter and you're the first to comment that it sticks. If it's due to little fragments of desiccant then I think it'd be a good idea to sieve it to remove the small fragments. If they're getting stuck in the lid then they can definitely get through the gaps in the main body and escape into the AMS/storage. The description clearly states it's for granule sizes of 2mm and above. If you overfill the holder then I imagine that could make the lid stick so I will add a warning to that effect. I'm confident the published profile (with Bambu PLA filament) doesn't have problems with lids sticking. Are you using Bambu PLA filament? Did you modify the print profile?

Replying to @dakin80 :
I used eSun PLA+ with the Bambu supplied profile for that filament - my silica is very very dry and that might exacerbate the problem in that the beads are electrostatically attracted to the container - another problem is my failing eyesight and impatience! :-)

I like it, but the base is not easy to print

Perhaps I should replace the grid of holes in the base with a set of parallel slots?
