Description

Summary

Add functional steering and throttle control to your Tuggy! This is a steering system that uses 4:1 planetary gear reduction to give you accurate control. This was designed to work with a Newport Vessels Kayak series trolling motor, but could possibly be modified to work with other units.

Notes:

*When printing the throttle box lid and switch face, you will print them together on the same bed but in two different prints. In your slicer, put the switch face in the middle of the bed, upside down. Save it. Slice the Lid in the middle of the print bed upside down as well. Print the switch face first in white. When finished, swap out for a contrasting color and print the lid. The lid should fill in the empty gaps in the switch face, creating one smooth piece.

Post-Printing

Assembly Notes

-Cut out the original steering wheel hub. Mark the 4 bolt holes and drill out for rivet nuts.

-Before pressing in the large 3/4" bolt, chuck it up in a vise and break-in the Nylock nut. Use an impact or a socket wrench to work the nut back and forth for about 10 minutes until it becomes looser. This must be done or else you risk snapping the base plate when tightening.

-Steering Yoke clamps onto the height adjustment clamp on the NV trolling motor.

-Steering cable will be locked in place after floatation foam is poured.

-Steering cable braces get zip-tied together on each end of the cable. This keeps the cable from flexing while being pushed.
