Munitions Chess Set
The Munitions chess set is an original design using current, and some imagined , weapon designs as the basis for individual pieces. It is sized for an average size board and for ease of piece identification.
Chess is war.
Each piece size and weight is detailed in table below.
The back rank pieces have a cutout for an M10 mutter (nut) to be inserted for weighting.
The dimensions of the M10 are appx. 19x17x8 mm.
The depth of each cutout is appx. 8.4 mm to accommodate the 8mm depth of the nut.
The pawns (grenades) have a cutout for an M8 mutter (nut) to be inserted for weighting.
The dimensions of the M8 are appx. 14.5 x13x 6.4 mm.
The depth of each cutout is appx. 6.42 mm to accommodate the 6.35 mm depth of the nut.
The chart below lists the appx. weights of each piece with the nut inserted.
The pieces fit well with a Square Size of 40 to 55 m

Printing
Each piece can be printed standing straight up with no supports required except the Knight, the horse-headed grenade.
Slight tree supports were hand-drawn in for the chin and the grenade handle in the back.
The print profile shows how I printed them.
Make sure your machine is well calibrated (leveled) for printing the box and you may want to run the bed a little on the hot side to prevent warping on the bottom and/or lid. Not a problem with the P1P I used here.
The box was printed using
• Filament PLA Grey
• Infill 30%
• Layer Height .20
The chess pieces were printed using
• Black PLA Matte Black (Eryone)
• White PLA Meta Cream White (Sunlu)
• Infill 15 %
• Layer Height .20 Quality
Weighting the Pieces and attaching felt
• Insert the nut into the base of the piece
• Apply some glue (model glue works well) to the base and nut
• Put the glued surface lightly on the felt piece, don't press too hard
• Allow to dry
• Trim excess felt
