Description

A friend of mine was doing a project where he needed a bonsai tree. I experimented with infill only foliage and it turned out so good I decided to release the model to the public.

Excellent design. I've made some negative parts to be able to put neopixel leds in, wires go inside the tree and an arduino board in the pot :). I don't think your licence allows for sharing files but if the designer is intrested let me know.

Amazing model. After printing it twice I'd say that the support design & removal could be changed. Support will leave marks on the model, which is visible because it's on the upper side of the "leaves".

Thanks! Yeah, I know. Have you seen the improved separate profile just for the leaves?

A bit modified supports and the contact z height is set to .3 I was able to remove supports with one hand while holding the phone (making video)

I give it 5 stars because it's a really cool model, with the tree printing without supports, and the rendering is impressive. On the other hand, it's not perfect, the supports can be difficult to remove for the foliage. I'm trying to print them vertically, I think we can do better that way.

Thanks! Yeah I know, unfortunately the foliage needs the supports. And how hard is to remove depends on some factors. Different PLAs give various results. For example users using silk PLAs reported awesome results. But you are right, there may be a better way.

Yes there is. Here is an example that i tested, it works, just use supports "on plate only", and increase the brim to 10 perimeters. Also as it is fragile (infill only), it is better to print only 1 part at a time, otherwise i had one failure out of 2 parts when i printed 2 at once. For this you have to turn manually the part, so it stands vertically, as there is no surface below to use the automatic feature. It results on a nice surface, on the uppon side, the one that is visible.
