Objective: Capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so they have no legal moves.
Setup: Each player has 12 pieces, set up on the dark squares of the three rows closest to them. The board has alternating colored squares. Only one color of squares are used in play.
Basic Moves:
Movement: Pieces move diagonally forward, one square at a time, onto an empty dark square.
Capturing: If an opponent's piece is diagonally in front of yours with an empty square behind it, you can jump over the piece to capture it and remove it from the board.
Multiple Jumps: If you can capture more than one piece in a single turn, continue jumping as long as there are valid moves.
Kinging: When a piece reaches the last row on the opponent's side, it becomes a "king." Kings can move and capture both forward and backward.
Winning: You win by capturing all of the opponent's pieces or trapping them so they can’t move. That’s it! Checkers is about strategy, so as you play, you’ll develop techniques for controlling the board and protecting your pieces.
