Description

Infinity Mirror: Empire Hangar

This infinity mirror recreates the epic atmosphere of an Imperial hangar, featuring two TIE fighters that seem to stretch into infinity thanks to the LED lighting effects. It’s a unique decorative piece, perfect for Star Wars fans looking to add a special touch to their home or collection.

Materials and Recommendations:

  • Mirror Effect Vinyl: To create the infinite effect, apply the vinyl to the back of the printed piece and a sheet of acrylic or similar material for the front.
  • Plastic, Acrylic, or Similar Material: Use this for the front of the mirror to enhance the infinity effect.
  • Luminous and Glitter Filament: Luminous filament is used for the white parts, producing a beautiful effect when the LEDs are off. Additionally, using glitter filament adds a metallic touch.
  • WS2812 LEDs and Controller: The design uses 77 WS2812 LEDs controlled by an Arduino D1 Mini with WLED, allowing for programmable effects. Alternatively, a simple 5V LED strip can be used without effects.
  • Electronics Box: Includes a dedicated space for the electronics on the back of the mirror. The hole for the power connector can be adjusted in the slicing software according to the cable size.

Technical Details:

  • WLED Configuration: The LEDs are divided into two segments to differentiate between the outer ring and the lights inside the columns, allowing for independent control of effects. If you are just going to use a simple LED strip, ignore this.
  • Assembly and Fitting: All pieces fit together snugly for easy assembly, but you can use cyanoacrylate for added security.
  • Printing Options: The design is intended to be printed without supports (except for the electronics box, which requires a few).

Excellent work, I will do it. However, which LEDs are recommended for this creation, 30 LEDs or 60 LEDs?

This is AMAZING! Can I ask how you cut the acrylic and vinyl? are they thin enough to cut with scissor or xacto?

Use a dremel type tool at low speed. I have also uploaded a dxf pro if you want to laser cut it.

What did you use for a power supply?

For the D1 mini and the LED, any 5V power supply will do. You can use a mobile charger.
