Description

MMU version of K-9

K-9 is Marvin the Martian's pet alien dog, from Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons.

The model, as presented is 115mm tall.

This MMU model was derived from my non-MMU model (reworked for a clean MMU print, ears and broom were slightly changed).

Enjoy!

Print instructions

Important: I used seven colors for this print

I've included a Prusa Slicer 3MF file that I used for this print.

To get the seven colors:

  • after the eyes finish and before the broom starts (I put a pause at the 96.4mm layer)
  • swap in the yellow for the white that is no longer needed
  • swap in the gold/brown for the red that is no longer needed

For filament swaps using the MMU3, at the pause I loosen the two pressure screws on the MMU3 unit. Opening the top allows for a manual filament load. I pull out the old filament, and manually feed the new filament to the opening. I then simply guide it into the second opening where it is now in position to be picked up when next needed. Resume from pause and you now have seven colors.

Individual STL parts are also included for other slicers.

Extra note: I used the PrusaSlicer .2mm speed defaults for my MK4/MMU3, except for the following changes:

1 - I used organic supports and set the overhang parameter to 30deg.

Be sure to check/set the purge amounts for the colors based on your filament brand. I was able to use the PrusaSlicer defaults without issue

I did individual parts and increase each part to 150%. Didn't have dark green for the helmet :( . The side things should be separate from the helmet so one can attach the side things, then the helmet. I just cut the upper part out of the head and forced the helmet down. I also snapped his head in half. I made a piece to jam in the infill holes and super glued it but it left a break mark and didn't want to print everything all over so I created a collar to glue over the break area. I will eventually shade the helmet and skirt and finish adding the soles and tiny marks on the shoes. Then everything is getting a lacquer coating. Added a picture of size comparison when increasing to 150%. Two things from the creator that would be awesome. First is, separate the helmet and side shields of the helmet into two pieces, or three. Second, added a squared out piece to align and connect the upper body to the skirt to the lower body like what was done for Marvin. I eyeballed it. Oh, and Thank You.

Did you do all that work on the MMU parts? There is another version posted for mulit-part printing that has all the gap tolerances built in. I post separate multi-material models and multi-part models as well as onepiece models. Each posting is unique for the appropriate type of printing. Teamwork, steve

I did the Multi-Print. Was easier to run single color of all three characters at once on one printer while I did the MMU parts like the sign on my printer with an AMS. Then I just pumped out single colors of all on one plate on both at the same time. K-9 on both types are identical in size in your files. Increasing 150% on the individual K-9 parts brought K-9 to the size of individual parts of Marvin creating a uniformity. Excellent work.

If you have the time and do make this, post your make. If I see more makes of multimaterial models, I'll convert more of my previously released multi-part models to multi-material. Teamwork, Steve
