could I scale this larger without causing an issue to timekeeping?

Absolutely! You could scale it larger and the timekeeping will not be affected! One thing to keep in mind if you do want to do that is that the hole in the back is designed to perfectly fit the components inside and the hole leading to the front. Just make sure you don't scale those any larger.
