Description

supportless,no brim,print in place(except fly's two little antennaes),flexi.

Compared to the first version, this version of the mask has better light transmission, allowing the wearer to see more clearly. Additionally, some details have been added, and the comfort of the straps has been optimized.

To ensure the model could be printed supportlessly, I put in a lot of effort to make adjustments.

I love this! Great detail, good range of vision, and it looks great even in plain black PLA. The swinging mouthpart that prints inside the head is a cool feature! I lost one antenna-bulb due to poor adhesion (my fault) but I'll glue it back on. There were a few hanging threads from the bottom of the hanging eye spheres, but they don't impact the mask. Overall, amazing detail and impressive overhangs for having no supports!

Thank you for your encouragement, and I appreciate your introduction of the model—it's clearer and more engaging than if I’d introduced it myself, haha!

You're welcome! I don't usually comment so much, but I love insects and this is a very creative design. :) I'd love to design things like this in the future. The only suggestion I'd have for future designs is that it would be great if there was an option to print the eyes on a separate plate and then clip/press/glue them into the head after printing. I love your printed examples with the dual filament and colour-changing filament (looks like a horsefly's eyes!) but it would be more striking if the rest of the head was black. Yes, you can paint the head, but for user experience, I think more people would be inclined to print it if the separate eyes were an option. And it's awesome that you provided a multicolour AMS print profile, but since it takes 29 hours and probably generates a poop-ton of waste, I don't know if many users are going to choose that. If you do paint some of the heads, I'd love to see how they look finished! (Especially the horsefly!)

I’ll try using paint to spray the model and see how it looks. If this model becomes popular, I might consider printing the eyes separately, as I’m aiming for support-free printing. There are quite a few factors to consider, and it’s not easy.

tips:When we print the model using color-changing materials, it's best to have the model facing forward so that the colors on the left and right sides will be different. If it's printed at a 45-degree rotation, the colors of the model will generally differ from front to back, which would be meaningless for this mask. This model can be enlarged up to 130% for printing, but it would have to be placed at a 45-degree rotation. In this case, the effect of printing with color-changing materials might not be ideal.

Perhaps try rotating the spool of color-changing material by 45 degrees, so the material's angle in the extruder changes. This way, when printing a model rotated by 45 degrees, it might produce a left-to-right color-changing effect. This is just a guess; I haven’t tested it.

are meaning a dual extrusion filament rather than a color changing? because you will never get your dual-color to line up perfectly every time. you have to do a calibration coin type print and then adjust the model in the slicer to line up with it for that print.

What you said is absolutely correct.Since English is not my native language, I used the wrong term. I now know that the material should be called "dual-color filament." Thank you.

Multicolor printing takes a lot of time and wastes a lot of filament. In fact, using spray paint is also very convenient and quick. I tested it with the first version of the fly head mask, and the result is acceptable. Step one: cover the eye area with damp tissue paper. Step two: spray paint the mask. Step three: remove the tissue paper. The entire process requires only about ten minutes of active work, not including a 30-minute wait for the tissue paper to dry slightly, plus another ten minutes for the paint to dry a bit before removing the tissue paper. Finally, it will likely need to air dry in a ventilated area overnight.

Wow, great print! So I'm not sure the adult size is going to fit my big head 😂

turned out great! it might benefit from a little support tree under the eyes but overall great print

When installing the fly's antennae, the flat side of the antenna, which was in contact with the print bed, should face toward the lower rear of the fly's head. Inside the mounting hole, there is also a small flat surface in the lower rear section. The antennae are interchangeable and can be installed on either side。

Arrgh!! Literally printed V1 the day before this came online! Both are awesome. Thank you! My antennae also fell off but I just reprinted them and glued them on with a heat gun. Printed mine in red/black silk plan and will cover spray paint everything but the eyes black. Question: What do the two yellow cubes in the model do?

You are welcome! Those two small yellow cubes are to increase the infill density in that part of the model, making it more sturdy.

Is there a way to make the eyes separate from the head to reduce the time and material for multi color?

I’ve actually thought about printing it in separate parts, but that would just make the mask heavier. Maybe you could try printing it in a single color first—especially since color-changing material has a nice effect—and then cover the eye area and use paint or spray paint to change the color of the rest.

Does it fit adults? 🤔😊

If it's enlarged to 130%, adults can wear it.
