Description

Aldi Quarter

Never worry about forgetting a quarter at Aldi again! This model is a keychain attachment that can be used in an Aldi cart instead of carrying around a quarter. It includes 6 different designs to choose from and each design is multi-color capable.

Each design is on a separate plate. Pick your design, update the text (see instructions below), change the colors to what you want, and print!

The example pictures (and the included 3MF file) all use the Merriweather font which is not included by default in Bambu Studio. To add a custom font to Bambu Studio, see the below section.

Changing the Bottom/Top Text (Easy Way)

To update the bottom or top text, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the design you want to update, and then click on the “Objects” tab on the left hand side of Bambu Studio:

  2. Find the “Top Text” object (or bottom text). Right click, and press “Edit Text”:

  3. In the menu that pops up, update the Font to your desired font
  4. Change the “Input Text” field to your desired text, press enter when done
    1. If after you press enter, the new text is still the same distance off the plate, then continue on to the below steps. I noticed that sometimes without warning, the text would jump up or down in relation to the plate after changing the text. I could not figure out why this would happen or how to prevent it. If this happens to you when you change the text, skip down to the below section “Changing the Bottom/Top Text (Hard Way)”.
  5. Exit the text edit. You can do this by clicking anywhere else on the plate or clicking the “Text Shape” button in the top menu
  6. In the left “Objects” menu, click on the “Top Text” object (or bottom text) again
  7. Now click and hold to drag the new letter and visually center it in the model

Changing the Bottom/Top Text (Hard Way)

If you run into the problem of the text jumping to a new distance from the plate after you edit the text, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the design you want to update, and then click on the “Objects” tab on the left hand side of Bambu Studio
  2. Find the “Top Text” object (or bottom text). Right click, and press “Delete”
  3. Click on the design again. Click the “Text Shape” button in the top menu

  4. Fill out the settings:
    1. Select the font you want. The font in the example pictures is “Merriweather”
    2. Set size to 16 (or update as desired)
    3. Set the thickness
      1. If you are editing plate 1 or plate 4 (raised letter), set Thickness to 0.6
      2. If you are editing any other plate but 1 or plate 4 (inset letter), set Thickness to 0.01
    4. Set the Embedded Depth
      1. If you are editing plate 1 or plate 4 (raised letter), set Embedded Depth to 0
      2. If you are editing any other plate but 1 or plate 4 (inset letter), set Embedded Depth to 0.6
    5. Set the input text you want
  5. Hover over the design, and click where you want to place the letter
  6. Exit the the text edit. You can do this by clicking anywhere else on the plate or clicking the “Text Shape” button in the top menu
  7. If the left “Objects” menu, find the new object you just created and click it (it should be named “text_object”)
  8. Set the color of the letter as appropriate:

  9. Click and hold to drag the new letter and visually center it in the model

Add a Custom Font to Bambu Studio

The examples in the pictures and the included 3MF file use the Merriweather font which is not included in Bambu Studio by default. To add a new font to Bambu Studio, follow the following steps based on OS:

  1. Windows
    1. Download the font you want
    2. Hold shift and right click on the font file
    3. Press “Install for All Users”
    4. Restart Bambu Studio
  2. Mac
    1. Download the font you want
    2. Click on the font file and install it
    3. Open up Font Book
    4. Click “My Fonts” on the left side
    5. Right click on any font, press “Show in Finder”
    6. Select all fonts in this folder (directory should be HD/users/username/Library/Fonts)
    7. Copy them to HD/Library/Fonts
    8. Restart Bambu Studio

(thanks to this Reddit thread for these instructions)

Material

I printed all of the examples in PLA. If you expect to keep the model exposed to high heat (like your car) then I recommend using PETG.

Easy to change the letters following the author's instructions in the description. This was my first AMS print which probably explains the color run. 5*s
