Description

This is a gravity hanger, it works by using a clever mechanism involving a marble. When pushed up, the marble slides out of the way allowing for a towel to be placed in the gap created, when let go the marble slides down against a ramp creating a pinch point to hold the towel in. This model works best with small hand towels but can hold medium sized light weight shower towels.

The marble used a standard game marble with a diameter of 17mm and can be commonly found in Walmart, the ones used will be posted below, the model will work with 16mm marbles but not as strong, there is also a cylinder model included to test the mechanism though it does not work as well as a marble/ball. An additional model was created to work with MakerLab's 14mm plastic balls. This model sticks to walls using adhesive 3M strips but I can upload models for any screw size if you want a more permanent solution, just send me a DM with a picture of your screw and dimensions of the head and threading and ill make the holes for you.

This model was inspired by a similar mechanism used by a wood worker to make a hanging system for papers and further inspired by an instagram post that showcased a similar towel hanger, but the mechanism and model was fully designed by myself with key improvements made over the mechanism design to allow more weight and a modern aesthetic.

I just printed a 17mm cylinder out of ABS, works just fine. I didn't want to buy a whole pack of marbles.. LOL

I dont blame you for not wanting to buy marbles, i just had some laying around so put them to use. Good idea on adding the cylinder, but id recommend a chamfered version so the edges dont stick to the fabric as much. I went ahead and added a cylinder to 2 of the profiles with chamfers on them, thanks!

Printed in black PLA and wood PLA as well as added a little wood grain texture to the hook. I think it looks nice but I need to orient it differently or perhaps try ironing to reduce the layer lines. Once I get that smoothed out, I'll hit it with some stain (as wood PLA takes stain well). Holds a wash cloth or small hand towel well, a little sketchy with a full size bath towel. I might add a little "bump" to the bottom inside of the hook to give a little more purchase on the towel. Love the print though!

I added a wood grain texture, waiting for my wood PLA to give this a shot. I think a little wood look on top gives it a more elegant look. I also thought of using 17mm ball bearings for some extra weight and a touch of metal: https://a.co/d/15MeRXO I love the simplicity of the model and hope it holds our bath towels nicely. Will post the print when it is done.

Any extra weight definitely help a lot! I might add that amazon link to the description of the mode. And that wood texture looks fantastic!

Hello Why do I get such "stripes" on the back? The one on the right in the picture, I have started to remove the stripes.

Stripes are a great way to burn the last 10g of a spool and make it go faster too 😀

just curious why not 3D model the marble too

the print wouldn't be smooth enough and the weight of the glass helps. I tried to do it, but it just doesn't work well. Feel free to add a 17mm sphere to try it tho.

I looked at them, but the larger the ball the better it works and the marbles from Walmart are actually cheaper. If you have a certain size ball I’d be happy to make a custom version to fit your size but I can’t really test its functionality since I don’t have those balls

Printed very nicely, thanks for this model it's been mostly perfect. I think I'll reprint the clip in pla+ to reduce flex and perhaps add a small lip to help the roller stay inside.

flex can be reduced by adding more top and bottom layers and is less affected by infill, just a heads up. Glad you like the model and thanks for the kind words

This is my result printing the bottom on X1C with white Bambu PETG-HF in white. Not sure why the issues with infill happened. Maybe I need to print supports in the areas effected.

yeah petg does like bridging much in my experience, just cause it prints hot. I would still work tho, you won’t even see those areas after the hook goes on

Printed the same piece but slowed the machine down and added some supports. Came out great even though the supports were kind of a pain to remove. Overall great print!! Thank you!!

the print is good...I am still not 100% sure how to take the towel without risking to lose the cillinder ..but I'll see. about the profile : -I don't understand why you marked the support om the wall at 100% infill..I don't see the point for that. -the front part is ok..but you can orient it somehow too look nicer
