Description

A cave for apistogramma breeding or any other small aquarium fish that uses crevices or caves for spawn.

Includes 1" hole that is big enough for most apistogramma females to enter and lay eggs. Most males will not be able to enter, and will instead release their milt at the entrance and fan it into the cave with their caudal fin (as they do in nature). Depending on your printer, you may want to add supports for the center dome. I was able to print using PLA on a P1S with a 0.4mm nozzle with no supports (I did use needle-nose pliers to pull out excess strands).

You may use any aquarium-safe filaments such as Food-safe PLA (may absorb water over time), non-additive PETG (probably the best option), and undyed/additive-free ABS. Don't use hydrophilic plastics like Nylon or plastics that leak like Resin. You may also want to cover in a foodsafe coating.

yes, as long as there's no additives, so don't use Matte etc. PETG is best if you're really wanting to be careful.

I love the design, but the base is to thick and the infill holds too much air and makes it float. I'm going to slice it myself and cut most of the bottom off so there's no infill and it sinks.

The space on the bottom is intentional to allow the cave to be set into sand/gravel and still be high enough to allow access. Most filament types are going to float until it absorbs water -especially PLA. The infill space fills with water within an hour of being submerged. You need to wait longer for the space in-between the wall layers to fill and then PLA to absorb enough water for to sink. This is a somewhat well known fact of 3D Printing, but perhaps I should have noted that in the description.

I use it in 3 breeding tanks. Works out fine. Apistogrammas mainly accept it (A. barlowi, A. D37, and A. agassizzi). Thanks for sharing!

No more
