Description

BambuLab X1Carbon Piggybank

This is a 80x80mm (WxL) piggy bank that is modeled after the BambuLab X1Carbon CoreXY 3D Printer. This is about a 1:5 scale down from the original printer.

The slot at the top fits any coin (and I guess bill) in circulation, and the coins can be removed either through the working door or the screw-out-bottom.

Printing

This model consists of multiple parts, best printed in these colours:

  • Multicolour:
    • The main body of the printer with the logo on both sides.
Alternatively, a version of the body without the text but with cutouts for the logo on both sides is provided for separate printing. In this case, the body is grey and the logo (printed 2 times) is black.
In any case, the main body needs to be printed with supports for the top of the doorframe, but make sure to place support blockers covering the threads of the bottom hole!
    • The door of the printer with the handle attached.
This multicolour print can be done with a single colour change, but you can also print the two parts separately (door in black, handle in silver). If printed as one, you will need supports to help with the handle.
  • Grey:
    • The screw insert for the bottom hole (make sure to print without supports).
  • Black:
    • The lid of the printer with the slot.
    • The screen-insert.

Printing this is model is best on a printer with multi-colour capabilities, and assembled STEP-files of the main body and door are provided for this use. A coloured BambuStudio file is also provided for multicolour printing.

Alternatively, all single parts are provided as STL-files and all need to be printed once (except for the logo which needs to be printed twice). A BambuStudio file with all necessary parts is also provided for this.
Please note that this STL-Version does not have the “BambuLab” text under the logo, as both printing and assembly of this would not be possible.

Update 20.01.2024:

I've created an alternative lid for this model that has the AMS standing ontop of the printer. You can find it here.

Assembly

Assembling this model consists of only a few steps, and at most a bit of glue is required:

  1. Remove all supports from the main body.
  2. Push the lid into the cutout for it, this should work as a friction-fit.
  3. Glue the screen into place in the cutout for it.
  4. If you printed the logo separately, install it now. This should also work as a friction fit and you might need to trim a bit of material from the edges of the logo parts, depending on your printer and material.
  5. Install the door into the frame. The hinge consists of the two protruding bumps on the left side, which fit into depressions in the frame. The radius on one edge needs to be at the front of the model for you to be able to open the door.
The easiest way to install this is to place the bottom bump in its hole, and then jam the door into the frame coming from the right, as you can see in the image below. You then need to hold the top of the door laterally to keep it on the frame as you push it left, towards the depression. There will be a larger resistance just before the depression, and it should snap in once you pass a certain point.
Warning: this process may dent the Frame a little bit, but this is not harmful to usage of the model. This is why I reccomend doing this process on the top of the door, you will see the dents less on that side.

Miscellaneous

I printed this model in black & white instead of black & grey, as I don't have grey on hand right now. This still looks good so don't sweat it if you don't have the perfect colours ready. :)

Had some stringing issues, which I could not resolve with drying or experimenting with options in the slicer. Nevertheless after a few tries the final result looks great, with only a little stringing behind the "display" where you cannot see it. I love to have my printer in small as a decor. Thank You ^-^

Really creative, It's a really nice gesture for a desk space, quick and easy to print, had no problems at all.
