Description

Was looking for the percussion frog (Guiro) and found some models here, but wanted the classic look that printed as one piece and sounded like the carved wooden figures we've seen on vacations. Nothing on Makerworld met that need, so I found this model on Thingiverse. After several prints and and adjustments to the fill and hollow, I ended up with a combined elliptical and cubic shaped interior hollow with a modifier cube that forces a solid filled base. with this combination, I think I have a very good sounding guiro frog. The stick is printed with 20 outside walls to make it a solid fill as well.

Hold the frog by back feet on the bottom, and gently drag the thick part of the stick up the back bumps to produce a pleasant frog croaking noise.

I have printed on my A1 eight times at 100% and 150% without supports with no issues, so you can ignore the floating cantilever warning.

The 150% produces a great bass frog sound.

BIG UPDATE (2025-01-30):

Based on the repeated feedback that the frogs and sticks was failing for others, I have added supports and increased the brim. It added some filament waste and increased print time a bit, but these increases are minimal to the frustration and waisted filament of failed prints. I apologize to those that have printed and failed. I also made a larger stick for the small frog, with the same diameter head portion as the large frog stick, because the large stick sounds better

I am so impressed! This came out beautifully, supports came off easily (much easier than other similar models I've tried), and the sound is the best I've heard. Really well designed! My kids are having a great time making music. I printed the large one and now am doing the small one to have different sounds.

Awesome! I'm so glad you like it. It took several iterations to get the sound right. I had a shelf of weak croakers.

I can tell how much thought you put into it! Have you made other instruments?

not sure what happened overnight but I did just install a poop basket and this was my first print with it on and I haven’t cleaned or calibrated lately. The part that printed before the crash looks great. I’ll try it again with different filament after maintenance

off. that sucks. sorry. It usually prints fine, but there have been a few instances where people have reported similar adhesion issues. It's hard to tell if those outliers are bed cleaning, filament issues, or something else. It looks like the stick stuck well though. You could increase the brim?

I revised the large frog print profile to add some supports. I apologize for any failures and frustration the original profile may have caused you.

Awesome print. First time using Bambu's wood filament. Figured this would be the perfect test. Sounds great.

That's awesome! You could sand and stain it

Yeah, I think I'm going to. I was surprised how much of the wood feel was there. I guess I was just expecting it to be more of a gimmick, but it turned out pretty solid. I'll update my photo when I get around to working on it more.

Thanks! I took many revisions and prints to get the sound right. These look fantastic! I haven't used any Glow filament yet. I'm jealous :)

I love these guys. BBL Rosewood and Hatchbox "Wood" PLAs, only changed internal solid infill to montonic line and sent it. They sound great, too! I wish the stick fully seated in the little one's mouth, but that's nit-picking.

Thanks for the feedback. Those frogs look great in the wood PLA! I don't know when you printed the small frog, but I updated the small frog stick a bit ago so that it should have the large mallet head, but the handle is now small enough to fit in the small frog mouth. You could reprint just the stick. If you are using the Handy App to print from your phone, on the screen where you select the printed and filament, you can use the "Select parts to print" option to remove the frog body and just print the stick again.

It was straight from the profile. The only thing I changed was the internal solid infill pattern and hit print. It might have been an old profile... I'm not worried about it since it's only a minor annoyance. I appreciate it though! Update: I just compared the 3MF I printed from to the current profile. I did in fact have the old version where the stick was too large. Glad to confirm it was in fact updated.

Sorry this happened. It is a tricky print and the profile is asking a lot of the plate for adhesion. Here are some tips that might help: Firstly, make sure your plate is properly clean: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/filament-acc/acc/pei-plate-clean-guide It could also be an issue where your filament needs a higher bed temp to achieve best bed adhesion. Even just 10 degrees can make a big difference. You could also try increasing the brim width. Under the "other" tab in Bambu Studio, under "bed adhesion," increase the "brim width" to a higher number. I hope one or a combination of these might help you get the print complete without a fail

Printed really well using Bambu Lab Classic Birch. Supports peeled off like butter using the profiles settings. Cats got scared and hid as soon as they heard its sound so guess I’ll be saving it for outdoor use 😂
