Description

For those without an AMS-lite who want a way to quickly change filaments on the A1

Allows for 4 filaments still in their dry boxes to be ready to load into you printer via this handy print.

Load upto 4 filaments into the lower bowden tubes passing through into the top tube to the print head. Now when you want to change a filament just take off the cover and pull back the filament 1 span of the box, this will clear the hot end. Then when requested load the new filament. This prevents you having to pull the old filament all the way out.

A big thank you to @Langetou who helped in the design and testing of this A1 version.

Improvements made in this version (over V1);

  • Wider, so better fits the A1
  • No need for screws
  • Supports the PC4 m6 connector for less tube slippage
  • Improved bracket, no fits the A1

Printed and assembled this for my A1 today, works great! due to the logistics of my printing area, I ended up making a wall mount to situate it above the printer to be found from a dry box on a higher shelf. I noticed the front cover seems to vibrate loose over time, perhaps a small bump and matching detent on either end of the box would help?

Amazing!! A wonderful piece of engineering/designing!! Very functional.. the mounts were a bit loose.. so used double sided tape as well.. This makes my filament swaps super easy!

I installed it, but the problem is that the filament slides very poorly through the PTFE tubing My A1 gives me an error every 5 minutes because it thinks the filament is tangled Is there a trick to make the filament slide better? Thank you for your help

what ID (internal diameter) is your PTFE tube many cheap ones are 1.75mm which causes the filament to rub. I almost exclusively use 2.5mm ID and its smooth as butter.

Thank you, I was unaware that wider PTFE tubes existed I will see if I can find some

I found a 3mm to 4mm PTFE tube, do you think that would be better

This looks great! I'm going to print it today! But I have a question... how does the print pause when I need to switch filaments? Does it know I'm not using an AMS and will prompt me for the filament change? I mean, I don't care if I need to be next to the printer to perform the filament swap, but I do want to know if I need to add a pause to the print every filament change or the printer will do this automatically and I just need to tug and push the correct filaments from the dry box. Thank you! :D

hey, sorry I think I've got you confused, this doesn't work like an manual AMS so you can not print multicolor in a single layer. What this print allows you to do is habe 1 filament loaded and 3 filaments almost loaded meaning when you wish to change a filament you don't have to pull it all the way out the tube, but just the 2" out of the tool head. I hope this clears things up.

Ohhhhh I see! Thank a lot for your reply! :D I'm going to print it anyways, it's good to have an option to load 4 filaments and swap them without having to take the whole thing out of the tube!

Works great, makes filament changing much simpler, especially if you connect it to a diy dry box like I did.
