Description

🐙
Articulated Octopus.
Bulbous head, eight legs, three hearts. What else could you possibly need in life?
Printed and assembled model is approximately 30cm in diameter.
Fits on A1 mini plate.

Pictured version was printed in single color with Overture Sandstone PLA.
Tentacles can be shared with Goofy Octopus version.

NOTE: The default profiles uses no supports, but does print a 1-layer grid on the bottom. This grid is very easy to remove and improves print reliability when printing the small segments in the tentacles.

After printing
- Please wait for the plate to cool down before removing the print as it consists of some small, delicate parts.
- Plug the tentacles in the head. It was designed to be a press fit, but glue might be necessary depending on your filament choice and printer settings.

Change Log

  • 2024-09-15:
    • Replaced brim with custom 1-layer grid that is easier to remove.
    • Improved clearance around joints so they come off the plate completely free to flex.

General 3d Printing Tips

  • Make sure your printing plate is clean! Oils from your skin will cause adhesion issues for your prints. Regularly wash your print plate with a detergent like Dawn and avoid touching the surface when removing prints from the bed.
  • If it's an option on your printer, always opt to level the bed before each print. If you have to perform this manually, make sure you do this after every few prints. It takes a bit of time and patience, but it's a fair trade for reliable prints.
  • Ensure bed and nozzle temperatures are within the expected range for the material you are printing. Temperatures that are too high or too low will affect the print negatively by causing warping, malformed layers or adhesion issues.
  • Reduce your printing speed. Slower print speed is especially important for overhangs because it gives the material more time to cool as it's deposited.

Cool design! Unfortunately, the print took too long with the adhesion to the print bed, and it was too time-consuming to remove. I made a cut with 0.23 and it was gone. It worked great, see picture, and only took 4 hours to print instead of 7 hours.

What you printed is not my profile, but the no-grid version you created is how the original model was. I found it to be too unreliable to release it to the public. I'm glad it worked for you, but I would personally not risk it considering it might easily fail 6h into the print. If it only took 4h and not 6h, I suspect you might have lost the adaptive layer settings either in the head or in the tentacles or both. The grid only takes a single layer. It does not take 3h to print it so I am trying to figure out how to account for the huge difference in printing time.

Thank you for the information. Of course, I have to agree with you, but when I print such things, I usually use a bit of 3DLAC on the print bed and have never had any problems. https://www.amazon.de/Spr%C3%BChkleber-perfekte-Haftung-Drucker-Druckbett/dp/B01HQ4KXZ4/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&;crid=2UWAHJZ4Z1G83&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ELWZtAaucIPGOT2JQpzOWXEpuhUyqn2EN5Yk6f1SZDucB6z0R18ayEf6-RuSpko_1fI216LpAZql7GPjXuwqyCaFbMv5xOEoM3TD0G2_M_-jDP9IZRy5BMPKmCBgD6gEB300-WX7YePeOtTScpiZYnuX_Y0GlTY3EWadMgMoJcTcSUUNYNmhYOJDGJ6XXwezd-DIfxJwZq-Us4TNl5sSYOeWOdoFPfn4IcuwTiOeucW63EAsepE9LGXIEUupWuuNMdhP14ELeuaCoxTMXQG7ENnvOoq_o7kzCpFpbiwrr6w.Wf89XNGaK6I0tAaujQoAi5adD2Qx7fVToNsDCY5cOTk&dib_tag=se&keywords=3dlac&qid=1726927307&sprefix=3dlac%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-1

Sorry to hear it. Sounds frustrating. Usually adhesion issues are caused by the print bed not being clean. Best fix for me is to periodically scrub and wash the plate with de-greasing, dishwashing soap (like Dawn). Don't use hand/body soap as it tends to have lotions and other waxes that might aggravate the issue. https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/general/textured-PEI-plate-not-working-as-expected
