Description

Whats new in V2?

Overall the design is much more functional while also adding new features:

New Print-in-place Center Column

  • Much easier to thread into the hanger, and adds more ‘fidgetability’.
  • You can now hang or remove your keys without having to twist the keychain
  • No more issue at some angles where the keyring gets stuck or sticks out
  • It always rotates and sits perfectly vertical.
  • Redesigned wall rack for strength + easier printing,
  • Improved tolerances so no more stuck keys
  • Slightly smaller design despite these new features

Key Hanger V2 – Impossible Passthrough

Created by Dotted Lines for the Makerworld Hangers Contest in August, 2024.

New & Improved version of my design: Key Hanger – Impossible Passthrough

I love the recent trend of ‘impossible passthrough’ objects, but they have been limited mostly to toys and sculptures. I set out to create something functional with this technique – and I settled on a key hanger and key chain. The ‘passthrough’ portion features extra struts which make it much easier to print, and they keep the rack strong with continued use. I hope you enjoy, please like & boost if you’d like to see more models!

V2.1 Edit: Added slight tapering to the end of wall rack - it's now easier to thread without lining up

V2.15 Edit: Uploaded extra profiles for each printer, added .STEP files for anyone remixing

V2.2 Edit: Added new print profile for larger/wider keyrings

Compatible with all Bambu printers: X1 series, P1 Series, A1, and A1 Mini

Instructions

  • In the 3mf file there is a version of the rack with and without screw holes.
  • The screw hole version is designed to fit #2 wood screws (should fit most wall anchors as well), and the other version can use double-sided mounting tape.
  • Simply print one rack, and three keychains
  • There are two plates for keychains: single color, or print-by-object for easy multicolor

Tips

  • If you encounter stringing, you may want to use a blow torch or heat gun to quickly remove
  • Like most pasthrough objects, any friction will loosen over time

What if I already printed V1?

Unfortunately those parts are not compatible as the tolerances and size have changed slightly

Print Settings (recommended)

  • Avoid crossing wall
  • Slow speeds
  • Reduce infill retraction - no

Broke twice because the opening for keyrings is too small.

Hi, I apologize for the issue you experienced. Another user reported a similar problem. I will upload a version with larger holes to accommodate wider keyrings.

Update: Please see the new print profile (Larger Keychain Holes). I have tested myself and it fits much larger keyrings allowing the keychain to move comfortably.

Massive shame to leave a 1-star on such a good model because YOUR keyring was too large and thus broke it. You affect the whole rating of the model as a result of your haste. Shameful.

This is pretty cool! I might redesign it so it magnetically secures into place but so far it works well. My roommates like it!

I was thinking press fit magnets. only problem is that they wouldn’t be very strong because they would have to be small to fit.

Thank you for the boost! Interesting I'm curious how 3d printed screws hold up. I imagine you could print wall anchors as well.

yeah i thought it would a good test to see if all parts required to use your design could be 3D printed just for thr fun of it, I am hopeful they will hold up i have also just printed a few wall plug sizes and designs to test before trying to mount into my house plaster hopefully not cresting a whole in my wall

@aloneinthedar15 sorry you are having issues! something is definitely wrong there, could I ask which filament & filament profile you are using?

the green one is Bambu labs basic pla which is the worse . The galaxy blue one is less worse than the green but it’s brand called Voxelabs . It really works coz I tried other Bambu filaments like the blue gray and it had the same issue . I will keep testing and let you know .

Larger Keychain Holes: 0.2mm layer, 3 walls, 15% infill
Some suggestions to take it from "good" to "great" - 1. Different sizes would be appreciated - in my case overlaid two to get a 4 length holder (as seen in the photos). Still need to stick another 4 up the wall for the keys we do use. 2. The strength of the holder is always a concern. I broke 2. Then swapped to printing this in PPA-CF (probably not the best since layer adhesion on the keyring connector is the issue) - so far ok. The bigger size should be the default. I do like it, a lot.

Thanks for the feedback and nice collection :) Other users have requested more wall plate options so I will keep this in mind for V3. I will be working to improve the strength of both the keychain and wall plates in the future. Anyways i'm glad you like the model!
