Description

This planetary (also known as epicyclic) gearset model represents the core mechanism of a 6-speed automatic transmission. The design features two sets of sun gears and planet gears, working together to provide six forward speeds and reverse. Widely used in modern car transmissions, planetary gearsets are known for their compactness and versatility. This model demonstrates how the gears interact to deliver varying speeds, showcasing the functionality of a car’s transmission system.

  • Main components

  • Description of Components:
Axis 1 (Yellow): Controls a set of green planetary gears.
Axis 2 (Red): Control second set of gears connected to green planetary gears.
Axis 3 (Blue): Controls sun gear.
Drive Axis: The primary drive axis that provides the input power to the system.
Sliding Gear: Transfers power to different axles.
Gear Stopper: Triangle block to lock a specific gear, preventing its movement.
  • Operation:
To simulate six different speeds and reverse, the engagement, locking, and powering of specific axes is controlled.

  • Utilization of Gear Stopper:
The gear stopper is used to lock specific axis in place, resulting in different gear ratios needed for each speed. The sliding gear and the gear stopper should never be set to the same axis to prevent part damage. When not in use, it is recommended to put the gear stopper under axis 1 for support the whole planetary gearsets.
