Description

UPDATED LOG 9/6/24:

I made a few changes to make assembly a bit easier, updated the lid so it locks into place once it's fully closed, and revised some of the shapes to prevent shapes from fitting into the wrong holes. Below is a list of the changes:

  1. Added nubs and sockets on the joints, so the pieces will snap together on their own. I still recommend using super glue, but this helps hold the pieces in place while it dries.
  2. Added labels to the pieces for easier assembly. Instructions below.
  3. Modified the finger catch on the lid mostly for aesthetics.
  4. Revised some of the shape sizes to prevent them from fitting into the wrong holes.
  5. Re-organized the plates to reduce print time and print in a more compact format.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. First and fore-most, the updated version can be a little tight depending on what filament you use and how tuned your printer is. If you don't have real strong hands, make sure you have a mallet or hammer on hand to tap the finger joints into place.
  2. In the photos, there are 3 steps and a completed model. The first step is to apply super glue to the finger joints of the Back (B), Left (L), and Right (R) pieces. While still wet, connect those three pieces and allow them to dry.
  3. For step 2, you will apply glue to the slot around the bottom, slide the bottom (The part with “Rob Cool 3D Designs”) into the slots ensuring the text is facing out.
  4. For step 3, apply some glue to the finger joints of the Front (F), the Right (R), and the Left (L) as well as the bottom slot of the Front (F). While still wet, connect Front (F) to the remaining pieces.
  5. Finally, slide the top into place and the small slopes at the edges will lock the lid into place once it's fully closed.

INITIAL RELEASE:

A simple shapes puzzle box for learning shapes.

To assemble, super glue the interlocking joints for the walls. You'll assemble 3 pieces initially, and add some glue into the grooves for the bottom. Slide the bottom into place and add the last wall. Make sure you pay attention to the orientation of each piece in the completed assembly photos. They need to be assembled in this manner for the top to be able to slide into place.

The top just slides in and out to close the box.
