Description

I scaled and modified the chess pieces so they could act as bookends. Mine is watching over my brick Hogwarts set.

Scale it down if necessary.

Other than the queen I haven't tried printing the pieces but there are many prints of the original models so they should print fine.

Be patient when removing supports!

Don't be discouraged by the 33h print time in the profile, it is for all 6 pieces.

Fantastic work 🤩However, I couldn’t give you five stars, Bambu told me it was an unsuccessful print lol even though everything went well 😥

I printed the first plate as is. Removing the supports was extremely difficult. I changed to tree supports in the slicer and had them off in no time without breaking anything.

Thanks for letting me know. I changed the print profile so it uses tree supports now.

Awesome. The only piece I had trouble with was the horse on the second plate. Everything was fine except for the bottom part of one of the rear legs (stringing). I was able to salvage enough and glue it together. I didn’t try it but maybe slowing down the print speed for that part of the model might help. Every other model came out great.

Yes, slowing it down might be helpful for the tricky parts. I will add it as a tip in tge description. Could you post a picture of the pieces? I would love to see how the horse turned out.

I forgot to take a photo of this one but it came out amazingly well with the existent profile. Be careful when removing the supports though, I printed this at 0.16mm instead of 0.20mm.

Which one did you print? You could lower the layer height up to 0.12 mm for added detail but I went with the speed/quality compromise since it is a big piece.

I only printed the Queen, I didn't mention that, my bad. And yes, I fully agree! 0.12mm is great for more detail.

Only problem is it took several hours to remove all supports. Looks good though.

Which figure did you print? It is originally a resin model so it was not designed for an FDM printer. The model I remixed has been meticulously redesigned for FDM but it still needs quite a bit of support. I recommend using my support settings. Support snaps quite easily but still needs to be done carefully. I'm glad you could glue it back up.

I printed the King and Queen. The supports came off best when I used metal tools but the scepter/sword did break in the process. A little glue fixed them right up

I recommend using flush cutters and cutting the middle of the long support branches so you have 2 nonconnected parts attached to the model and then remove each of the halves. And do that for all the bigger braches which connect to the print in multiple places.
