Description

I was looking for a desiccant holder that would go with the spools while it was in the vacuum bags but couldn't find one I liked.

Holders that go inside the center/hub of the spool are sealed off from the filament once the bags are vacuumed, so I wanted one that went outside. It needed to allow visual confirmation of the color indication of the desiccant while on the spool, it needed to fit multiple size spools, and it needed to be robust and quick to print.

Four Sizes to choose from 45mm, 50mm, 55mm, and 60mm.

I opened up tinkercad and here is what I came up with: three models; 45mm, 50mm, and 60mm tall canisters. The 60mm fits perfectly inside the Bambu spools. The 50mm fits many of the other 1kg spools. the 45mm fits the colorFab 750g spools. A 55mm was requested by @wkearney99, and was uploaded on 24/11/23. If there are any other specific requests, I will do what I can to oblige.

The snap on lid is interchangeable between all four sizes.

The containers are only perforated on the spool side, and when printed in transparent PLA or PETG, you should be able to see the color indicating desiccant. I designed them as spiraling vase mode prints with 1mm walls, so they are pretty strong and fairly quick to print.

Each size is set up on separate plates, and each plate is set up to print all four parts as objects so each part can be printed in vase mode.

Update 24/12/2: As a request from @Val3D,  I created and added desiccant boxes with perforations on front and back.

Everything printed as expected without problems. I believe it could be a much more speedy profile, for what it prints, but this is only a suggestion.

Nice. I'm glad it printed well. I'm not sure what you mean by "speedier profile," but would like to learn. Could you explain how to increase profile speed?

Replying to @MillCasaMakes :
I mean that the speeds for the walls and infill could be a bit higher since there are not so many details. I was watching it printing and I think that it was a bit low speed. Maybe I'm wrong.

Can you please tell me what I've done wrong? Those containers are full of infill, even inside the lid, and there is no opening. I didn't change any settings. Just opened it in BBL slicer and that's what i found.

Under the "others" tab, make sure the "spiral vase" mode is selected. It is selected in the .3mf file, so I'm not sure what happened in your case to deselect it. There are other settings that are pretty important too, like the 1mm outerwall and 5 bottom layers, that if changed, will result in a failed print. Maybe close Bambu Studio, delete the downloaded .3mf file, and try to load it again from makerworld to be sure something else funky hasn't been altered form the .3mf file I posted.

Superb model, I used and printed the 45mm which fits perfectly on a still-full spool. The lid closes well, the print is smooth, perfect in PETG… Thank you!

Love them. I have some filament that needs to stay dry. PETG but even more so - PVA (disolvable support). I tend to vacuum pack these special rolls, but the pressure is enough to bend the spools themselves. Leaving them like that would permanently deform them, making it near impossible to use in an AMS. I printed a whole bunch of them, but basically, I put four of them in a spool (I think a fifth would fit, too), which not only keeps the filament dry but also stops the spool from bending (due to their perfect height).

Printed quite well in PETG Translucent, from both Bambu and Overture. And an accidental print with white Inland PETG (due to a strange AMS substitution)

The 55mm model fits nicely with Inland spools, thanks! I've printed several sizes in different filaments. PETG Translucent is a winner, either using Overture's clear or Bambu's gray. White got printed by accident, and barely allows seeing the color, even through the grating.

I've printed over a dozen sets of the 60mm version. All have turned out great. They fit snugly in the spool. The lids attach firmly. 0.2mm layer height, no brims to clean and no supports needed.
