ReprapDiscount Full Graphic Smart Controller 12864 Folding case with lights and switches.
Yet another case for the ReprapDiscount Full Graphic Smart Controller 12864.
This was designed to have perfect printing condition and a nice look because the down pannel folds to get the right angle and keep a good aspect.
It's a one single part case, printable with no support, no brim, no skirt. You can print the RepRap plug to hide the mounting screws.

Don't be affraid to print with 100% infill. It will brings the needed strenght to the case, and the infill areas are reduced, so it's not a long pringting time part. There's a "weak" line to allow the bottom pannel to fold to the case. It works with both PLA and ABS.
Folding instructions.
Just fold the bottom pannel to the case then secure it with two Din912 M3*10mm screws. It's an easy operation which can be achieved by a single person.
Why yet another 12864 display case ?
Well, as usual, you never find exactly all the features you need in "things".
Before to design this one, I printed 3 cases from thingiverse and found unpleasant issues : fragile case, unaligned holes, too big footprint for a not so big display, unpratical mounting holes, no possible extensions or switches inside, two or 3 parts case...
As I installed my printer in a heat chambre, I needed a compact control panel which allows me to turn the printer on, eventualy turn on lights or cooling fans, control the printer, and all that outside the box in a single front pannel. That two angled pannels allows to hold all the features in a small footprint. That case size is comparable to other 12864 cases I printed by the past. Last, I wanted a single print part with no more post production thant to fold and fix the bottom pannel to close the shape.
To me it's contains all I ever needed. It's one of the parts I printed two years ago and never wanted to upgrade and/or replace.
The foldable pannel allows to have the two front pannels nice and clean. I dismantled 2 or 3 times the pannel to unplug things for maintenance (fans getting noisy, and so...) and the pannel is still stong like new.
The design is very simple, and the parts prints easily. No need to dig holes or so. The Reprap plug hides the mounting screws and makes the enclosure nice and clean. The shape is simple with elegant round corners and display that cames flush to the case.
Because I used everyday during two years with nothing to blame on it, so I decided to share that "yet another .
