Description

ULTRA BALL version:

The Ultra Ball (Japanese: ハイパーボール Hyper Ball) is a type of Poké Ball introduced in Generation I. It is an improved variant of the Great Ball that can be used to catch wild Pokémon.

This pokeball is an improvement of MrFozzie's original work, the hinge mechanism has been simplified and optimized to be printed in place.

I have modified the inner and outer button to eliminate the overhangs so that it can be printed without supports.

The print profile is designed and tested for easy printing, the hinge has increased perimeters for greater strength, supports and seams are added by hand.

The outer parts have a variable layer height for a smooth finish.

ADDED NEW PRINT PROFILE WITH IMPROVED VERSION

Instructions for assembly:

Glue the top and bottom pieces to the hinge mechanism, the piece with a hole in the button mechanism will go on the top.

The button does not need to be glued, just insert it into the ring and glue to the outside of the ring and hinge.

Fully functional PokeBall made to be an exact replica of the real thing! Uses only 3D printed parts and super glue yet has fully functional hinge and button which presses in and unlocks a catch to allow you to open it, using the flex in the plastic to act as a spring. Hinge opens to 90 degrees and stops like the real thing and does not stick out the back so cannot be seen, also just like the real thing. The button also hides its own mechanism from view adding to the authenticity. Parts have notches and grooves to ensure perfect alignment while glueing allowing you to have a perfect model with ease.

Printed this and it came out great, but I noticed the bottom part of the hinge (the part that goes with the white part) is not perfectly flush against the walls of the ball. It instead curves in leaving parts of the ball under the hinge. Is that an intended part of the design?

Hello, yes, it is designed that way to create a base for the display Pokéball. If you'd prefer a cleaner hinge without those edges, I made a version without them in the jewelry Pokéball. https://makerworld.com/es/models/942326#profileId-908311

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll print the other hinge and try it out. Just curious, could you elaborate what you mean by "create a base for the display pokeball"? Is it made specifically to accommodate a different set of prints?

It is used to hold the bottom piece, which serves as a base, allowing any item to be displayed inside.

only 4 stars because the upper shell of the ultra ball, the walls get too thin near the bottom so they tend to string, I had to print it 3x times to get it useable by adding a brim

Hi, what piece do you need exactly brim ? the yellow one have brim, which is the most complicated. I solve adhesion problems on complex pieces with hairspray.

it was the yellow piece, when I printed it for some reason it left off the brim. it's the only print I've had fail so far is the only reason I said anything.

Printing the inner shell/hinge best done at a higher quality, 0.12mm, so the hinge doesn't fuse. Printing the 'H' top on the A1 had issues with the periodic 'blob detection' motion of the print head coming back across and dislodging the two 'feet' in line with the head motion. Rotating the piece 45 degrees solved that problem. I also printed with 100% fill. Even at that, the piece is thin and car must be taken when removing the support bits.
