Description

Filament Swatch System.

This is my Filament Swatch System that I have developed now that I have so many rolls of different filament. I really liked the smaller of the two filament swatch cards in the remixed model, especially the space for a 40x30mm label, so I built a system around it.

  1. When I get a new filament I print a swatch card.
  2. I then go on to https://3dfilamentprofiles.com and find the profile for the filament I just bought (or create if it is not there yet)
  3. I then print out a label from the filament detail page (e.g. https://3dfilamentprofiles.com/filaments/16/details) and attach it to the swatch

  4. The swatch is then either put on the hanger for the container the filament goes in, or AMS slot if it is being used.

The hangers are attached to my Sterilite containers with double sided tape. Each Sterilite container holds 4-5 spools depending on width. The swatch card is simply pressed on to the hanger for whichever container that spool goes in.

Then when I load the filament into the AMS I simply pop off the filament swatch and insert it into the AMS holder. The hanger remains attached to the Sterilite.

Sterilite storage model is here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/478305

Labels are designed to fit 40mm x 30mm label printers such as the Phomemo M200  (Amazon) although I'm sure other printers will work. The labels downloaded from 3DFilamentProfiles are designed for the Labelife app which supports many printers I believe.  There is also an option to download a PNG file of the entire generated label.

Update: New vertical swatch holder now available

Due to popular demand I have designed a vertical version of the horizontal swatch holder with a similar slot-based design that holds the swatch securely as you lift the container down from your shelf.

Model is here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/785693#profileId-723237

Update: Added Gridfinity Swatch Bin

I have uploaded a Gridfinity compatible swatch holder bin that holds 10 filament swatches for when you are not storing them in the AMS or Sterilite/Cereal containers.

Model is here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/889430

All boosts go towards buying filament to add to the 3D Filament Profiles database, and of course, very much appreciated.

I'm hooked. I way prefer these swatches compared to the small squares from bambu. and when you load a lot of colors to the ams you can forget what is loaded. especially when you have multiple of once color family. thanks for the great work

I used the parametric box tool. https://makerworld.com/en/models/483466?from=search#profileId-395672 i used the default tolerance of .5??? I would def go a smidge bigger I had to sand the edges of the box and cover where they fit to get it to come off easier. my box is slightly wider then the swatches because I wanted it to be easier to pull the swatches in/out of it. if you want my file just shoot me a message

so far I like the system, sadly I'm hunting down my own filament info as it's not on that site, but other than that, it's a great system.

alot of creality & overture filaments are missing, I'm working on getting the info so I can try to add to the site but I think it might be as it's older filament types (from years ago, but still sealed & working perfectly). some of the ender aren't even listed on their site (creality) at all.

When you start adding them, go to the Brands page and add default settings for the brand/material/type combination. Then when you go to add each filament back on the filaments page, all you will need to do is add the color for each new filament and the default settings will load in for the rest of the it. Hope that makes sense.

Nice set up, love the blue. I will see if I can get an Amazon Basics logo to work with the labels and, if so, add it to the site.

Great system that is well designed and has made my filament life so much more organized and tidy. It did take me a bit longer than I'd care to admit to figure out the label process and while I like the design of your label on screen I was unable to read them when printed but that is definitely a "me" thing. I have given several of my friends the link to the project after they've seen my print area as seen in the attached pic but now there are doors to hide the plastic.

I have a larger font version of the label on my to-do list. You can also download the “native” version which will allow you to increase font sizes.

So organized! Can I ask what the horizontal bin storage you have is (not the cereal box style)?

Had to give you another boost! After using this system for a week or so, I realize that for a noobie like me it is almost a must-have - along with the filament profile page. Totally simplifies the use of multiple filament makers and helps me be sure I am using the right print profiles. Thanks again

Absolutely the best setup by far. Easy to use and print with great attention to detail. Love the label site and was even able to add to the filament database which was cool. Nice job!
