This adapter system wraps the edges of a PROTOPASTA 203mm cardboard spool in order to:
provide smooth rotation within a Bambu Lab AMS
prevent carboard debris from depositing within a Bambu Lab AMS
Features:
Reusable
PROTOPASTA nameplate for easy identification when reusing
Instructions:
Print this model twice for a single spool
Affix one spool ring adapter on each side of the PROTOPASTA spool
See attached photos
Notes:
PROTOPASTA spools measuring 203mm in diameter are larger than the stock AMS lid clearance diameter of 202mm. Please see my AMS Lid Riser model which allows you to keep your AMS lid closed while providing additional clearance for larger filament spools.
For narrow spools measuring ~54mm in diameter the spool rim must be seated in the second lane within the AMS spool slot (see attached diagram and photos):
Considerations:
Print Material: Please print with a basic PLA or PETG to minimize any shrinkage.
Too Tight? Too Loose? Cardboard expands with humidity and contracts when dried. A cardboard spool that has absorbed too much moisture may cause the adapters to fit very tight. Placing the spool in a filament dryer, such as the SUNLU S2, for a bit should resolve this. Note, you should not dry the spool with the adapters attached as they can warp in the heat. Keep in mind that after a long drying session the adapters may fit too loose. This should resolve itself shortly as the cardboard reabsorbs some moisture from the air.
Printed so easily. No issues at all. I only printed one side and use the same for the other. Let's hope it works
used yousu pla+ with bambu pla tough setting on my p1s
Works perfectly. Just FYI, the Protopasta cardboard rolls are still slightly too big to close the AMS lid. That is the Protopasta design, not because of this adapter. Thank you.
Thank you for the rating and feedback! If you're frequently running large spools such as this I have an AMS Lid Riser model that may be helpful for you. I have it linked in the model description and you can also find it on my profile.
printed great but the spool I have is a 200mm diameter. I did find a print for it. not sure if this is an older design spool I have or just an odd one.
I have a separate model for 199mm Protopasta spools (please see link in the model description). This may be what you're looking for. I hope this helps!
