ABOUT THE GAME

Quoridor is a strategic board game for 2 or 4 players where the objective is to get your pawn to the opposite side of the board before your opponents. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to play:

Components
- Board: A 9x9 grid of squares.
- Pawns: Each player has one pawn.
- Fences: Each player has 10 fences in a 2-player game or 5 fences in a 4-player game.

Setup
1. Place the Board: Lay the board flat.
2. Position Pawns: In a 2-player game, players place their pawns in the center of their respective edges (middle space of the first row). In a 4-player game, players place their pawns in the center of each edge.
3. Distribute Fences: Each player gets 10 fences in a 2-player game or 5 in a 4-player game.

Gameplay
Players take turns, starting with a randomly chosen player. On your turn, you can either move your pawn or place a fence.

Moving a Pawn
- Basic Move: Move your pawn to an adjacent square (up, down, left, or right).
- Jumping: If an opponent's pawn is adjacent, you can jump over it if the square behind it is empty. If it’s not, you can move to either side of the opponent’s pawn.
- Blocked Paths: You cannot move through fences.

Placing a Fence
- Placement: Place a fence between two sets of two squares. Fences must be placed so they fit into the grooves on the board.
- Restrictions: Fences cannot overlap, and they cannot completely block a pawn’s path to the opposite side. Each pawn must always have a path to the opposite side.

Winning the Game
- Objective: The first player to get their pawn to the opposite side of the board wins. In a 2-player game, this means reaching the opposite edge; in a 4-player game, any of the three squares on the opposite edge will suffice.

Strategies
- Balancing Acts: Use fences to block your opponent while ensuring your path remains open.
- Adaptability: Be ready to change your strategy based on your opponent’s moves.

Summary of Rules
- Turn Options: Move your pawn or place a fence.
- Fence Limits: Each player has a limited number of fences.
- Objective: Reach the opposite side of the board first.

That's the basic overview of how to play Quoridor! Enjoy strategizing and navigating the board.
