Description

I'm getting old, so getting a real gold medal at the Olympics this year is very unlikely.

So I had to go by what I could find on the internet. They gave dimensions in press releases, so I think I'm good there. I found some pictures and tried to replicate everything the best I could. Not great pictures of the reverse side for generating the more intricate parts, but I think it looks good. The main front Eifel Tower piece is great! (I enlarged a bit the ‘weld’ pieces as they were flaking off in the 3d print, but everything else is about as exact a replica as I could get)

I had it print in two parts so you could thread a ribbon through and snap/glue together. Removing supports takes a medium amount of effort but earns you an Olympic Medal!

Enjoy!

Fantastic. Now Jean-Luc can be recognized for his efforts of waking us up every morning at 3 am with his gold medal yowling

Can I ask what font you used for the text? I'd like to add the sport my recipient won when I give it to her!

I actually used some images of the actual medals to convert to avg and clean up a bit, so I'm not totally sure what the font is.

I’m enjoying this print so far. I’m curious on how you make your 3D models?

For this one, I tried to find higher resolution pictures on the Internet to work off of. It was a little frustrating because at the time they didn't have a ton of angles or very good pictures. I use Fusion 360, imported the front and used it to trace where to make everything. The back was so intricate that I converted a picture (the best I could find at the time) to an SVG and used it to emboss the picture. It was a fun exercise to try to replicate something.

The front side is beautiful, but the back is too fine for a 0.4 mm nozzle. Additionally the writing stocks out too far and breaks off. I also found the joins for the two halves to be too tight.
