Boost Me (for free)

Consider boosting this model as it helps me get essential supplies like filament from the Bambulab store. Every boost is a step toward helping me test new prints for future models designs.

I've been doing these 3D Penrose triangles for some time, and I find the visual effect mesmerizing, especially when viewed head-on. To enhance the illusion, I recommend mounting the triangle at the base of a picture frame, which helps to accentuate the forced perspective. They sell thick frames at different craft stores - here is one from Amazon - Unlike traditional Penrose triangles that are limited to a single viewing angle, this can be admired from a few other perspectives.

This was inspired by an actual statue out in Belgium, where the triangle is curved in order to replicate the effect. Here is the statue by Mathiew Hamaekers - once he created the illusion back in 1997, others played with similar models.

If you want to add even more to the effect, try smoothing the edges. I chose not to do so for this iteration to avoid discrepancies between the model and its photographs. I want to make sure that what you see is what you get. Even then, the illusion still works.

Liked it so much I remixed it with a hanging hole! If people want it, you can find it here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/531445#profileId-448283. Great job!

lol , I actually have thought of that too… or rather my wife did, she saw me hanging them out to spray paint and commented that they look like earrings

Turned out perfectly. I scaled it up. Printed on X1C in PLA white.

Cool print, but messed up a little around the inside edges

Hi @Bubs , there are two prints. One with polygon edges, and one that's smooth. It looks like you printed the one with the polygon edges. I made that one (polygon) so you can add lighting to the sides (A picture frame with side LEDs). But I'm glad you liked it!

nice print. it took me a minute to figure out you have to look at it exactly at the right angle for it to look like the optical illusion it is.
