Description

Smaller version of the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool. Thanks to its smaller outer diameter of 180mm, it can be printed on the A1 Mini and still fit a Bambu Lab filament Refill*. I took a long time to fine tune model geometry and the print settings to optimise the weight, the print time and the quality of the print. So I hope you will like it 😉

* ABS/ASA refills are not compatible, the reels are too big.

Mini Spool Features

• 16 Built-in Filament Clips all around its perimeter. That way, you will always have one at close reach.

• Locking Shim prevents the spool from accidentally opening ( see Installation section for more info).

Mini Spool Compatibly

The spool is compatible with the AMS lite. It should also be compatible with the AMS with the Hydra Pro Mod but I couldn't test it, I don't have neither of those.

If you plan to use it on the A1 Mini side spool holder, I highly recommend you to print this model too : A1 Mini Rotary Spool Holder Adapter

This prevent the spool from unwinding when the Z-axis is moving down.

Installation

1. Align the notch on the refill with the tab on bottom spool and insert the refill.
2. Insert the top spool inside the refill and turn it clockwise to clock it.

3. Insert the locking shim (optionally you can add a second one).

4. Remove the four straps and attached the filament onto the clips.

absolutely perfect print! this was one of the first things i printed as a beginner. i love the compact size and option to print non-perforated versions. it took me a minute to figure out what the clip was for 😆

It is a Creality Hyper PLA in grey. i like it for structural parts, because it really is as tought as they market it.

Very cool. But I also have some problems with the finish.

Thanks for your feedback and the boost. It's probably due to the bed not being perfectly clean. (Dish soap + warm water)

Hi Henlor. No, I washed the bed before I started this one. So there is something else wrong? :)

Hmm 🤔 the first layer seems under extruded in the bottom left quarter of the spool. But I don't know what's the cause of that. Maybe a partial clog or a wrong bed mesh. For the overhang in the middle of the spool it's a cooling issue, I should probably reduce the speed even more to make sure it prints well with a broder range of filament type and colours.

PETG with holes for respooling
Printed with Translucent Matterhackers PETG pretty good small issues here and there probably on me.

Thanks for the feedback and the rating. I will change the chamfer angle to 45deg on the big inner hole for the next version. That way it will be easier to print, even in PETG ;)

Looks like you’re settings are not working right. Try again and check exactly what the specific filament you’re using and sett it right. That spoole looks awful mate🙄

Was printed on base bambu petg profiles while using matterhackers , didn’t expect it to come out great but definitely doesn’t look horrible 😂 I’ve got bambu petg now and dialed the retraction + ironing in im good to go

Turned out great, although I'm not sure what the little shim piece is for. It seems to be working just fine without it.

Thanks for the boost ;) I recommend you to install the shim, it will prevent the spool from opening. I want to add a the gif with assembly instructions on the model description but the MakerWorld page editor is a bit broken after the last update. So for the moment, I've added the gif at the end of the image gallery.

I've never known what those were for until now. THANK YOU!!! I just printed a bunch of them to lock all of my spools, I have a couple of loose ones and one did fall apart ones while I was swapping it, this would have prevented it lol, thanks!

It looks to print just fine, what's the problem exactly? I hope you didn't stop the print because those small hollowed area around the perimeter and the center because they are perfectly normal, they are infill.

Replying to @Henlor :
no, the printer stopped printing at that point and indicated the was successful. I tried this printer 3 times.

That's strange, did you use the Handy App or BambuStudio/Orca ? And which profil did you use? Perforated 0.4 Nozzle? If you sure that your nozzle didn't clog and the print didn't finished the rest of the file without extruding. It looks like the file sent to your printer is corrupted or at least incomplete. It's might be a bug of the Cloudslicing if you used the Handy App. Because this particular file take a long time to be sliced and I could imagine some timeout error on the Cloudslicing server, but it's really unfortunate if it's sending incomplete files to printers! You should submit a ticket to Bambu with your log files attached, they should be able to find the source of the problem.

Lot of stringing in the center. otherwise turned out great

Any idea what might have caused the failure? The print profile definitely pushes the boundaries a bit, but so far I haven't seen anybody with such issues, so if you have any ideas what might have caused it I will add a warning to the description.

Not really sure, I am using the Elegoo Rapid PETG. It for some reason doesn't adhere to the inner circle, was wondering if its because of the chamfered without support.

I have no idea what the 'rules'/expectations are on Maker World, but the print profile is for PLA, not PETG. When you hover over a print profile it will show you how much of each filament it will use. Although I own some PETG, I haven't learned to print with it properly yet, but it is my understanding that PETG is more likely to string in general. For whatever it is worth, there is actually a print profile for this model for PETG as well.

Plain Version - 0.4 Nozzle
It looks quite good, but I'm unsure why the print time has doubled. The primary reason for choosing no hollowing was to save time, yet why does the A1 initially display a four-hour print time per spool?

I guess is because it's printed with PETG.
