Description

Introducing the AMS Lite Wall Mount with an optional safety strap, designed to be printed on an A1 Mini. Free up some desk space by attaching your AMS Lite to a wall or in my case, particle board because I haven't decided on a location yet.

Some important details before you print:

 

  • Mount it to a stud or use high-quality drywall anchors.
  • If you download the STLs instead of the 3mf, you need to split into parts and max out the walls of the two “inserts” for extra strength. The mounting holes are reinforced independently of the rest of the model. See the last two pictures to get a better idea.
  • The strap is optional. The mount should be fine, but it gives me peace of mind to have it in place. The spools may rub on it a bit, but I have not seen any negative side effects.
  • The 3mf file's settings are designed with safety in mind, you may be able to adjust things to save some filament and time.

 

Some more info, known issues, and future plans for the curious:

  • There were some design challenges as the cable to the AMS is a fixed length, so the mount was designed to have the unit upside down to allow for as much line as possible.
  • There is a gap between the lid and the feed due to the taper of the legs. It doesn't really matter, but it is sloppy, so it needs to be fixed. You can shove some foam in the gap if it bothers you.
  • The nut slots at the bottom are the only things that require supports. I hate supports and will be looking at alternatives.
  • Along the same lines as the nut slots, I wanted to make a slot for the strap underneath but that would require more supports. Still looking at other options.
  • It may be a good idea to shorten the PTFE tubes a bit.

 

If you run into any issues, please let me know. I will keep tweaking the design based on any feedback I receive.

Nuts - I'm putting a link to just the nuts, but also one to a “starter kit”, because if you are getting into 3d printing, you should have a lot of different sizes of screws and nuts on hand for all the projects you will inevitably start.

Works great! I've put the nuts on the outside, cause I didn't have nuts that were small enough for the appropriate holes (if you wanna do that, put in the bolts before hanging, and push them in the hole with some some paper or a ball of tape. Tie the nuts with a plier, while pulling the nuts. This makes sure that the bolt doesn't rotate while fastening the nut) For the room between the mount and former foot, I've used a couple of wedges.

putting up the final one got 3 already best solution for a1 print farm I have 1000’s of hours on these I used toggle mounts to secure to dry wall and it holds extremely well.

Do you mean flipping the mount upside down? It would not be as secure. My initial design worked that way, but cable length became an issue and I was worried about weight distribution with 4 spools loaded.

Sorry, what I mean is put the AMS lite on the top of the printer with upside down (with stand on top and filament at bottom) so we can save more space.

Oh I think I see what you are saying now. Someone smarter than me may be able to come up with a solution like that, but I don't see any good place to mount directly off the printer that wouldn't interfere with printing. If you came off the wall in that orientation, then printed parts are probably not the best option due to the length they would need to be.
