Description

For my older daughter’s godchild, I designed a unique music box in the shape of a piano. My goal was to create a realistic keyboard that goes beyond the typical flat or sticker-style keys often found on toy pianos. It was also important to make the piano sturdy enough for a child to play with.

Through the Creator Program, I was able to further develop my model with Bambu Lab, resulting in two versions of the music box: a hand-winding version, which you can find here, and another version with a wind-up mechanism, available here

If you are looking for a suitable chair for the piano, then take a look at the fantastic Piano Benches for my pianos from EYESTUDIO.

Printing

In my print profiles, I have grouped the individual parts on different print plates and specified the recommended filament colors and layer heights in the description.

You can use a 0.20mm layer height with 15% infill for all parts. A 0.4 nozzle is sufficient for the model. Only the back wall of the housing requires supports; all other parts can be printed without supports.

For each part, I recommend using the following filaments:

Additional Parts

For this model, you’ll need a music box, available as Piano Music Box Hand Winding Kit-K015 in the Bambu Lab Maker's Supply shop. The melody of the mechanism is randomly selected and may include pieces like Für Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven, (Somewhere) Over the Rainbow by Harold Arlen, Tale as Old as Time from Beauty and the Beast, and many more. Be surprised.

Assembly

A comprehensive assembly guide can be found in the documentation area.

Note: A quick tip based on some common assembly mistakes: ensure that the keyboard is installed correctly, with the black keys positioned away from the front.

This appears to be the wrong music box that was delivered in the hardware kit. Am I overlooking something?

Hey @bambiii! There are two models: one with a hand crank (Kit K015) and one for winding (Kit K014). If you own Kit K014, you don't need to reprint the entire model. Instead, it's sufficient to reprint only the back panel and the right side panel from the model for Kit K014 (found at: https://makerworld.com/en/models/450255). The rest of the piano is identical. Best regards, SheepMe!

This print breathed new life into a un-cased music box we had laying around the house. But it turned out so good I bought a few more off AliExpress to make some more. I've had success printing without supports. I learned the hard way to use super glue with a precision tip and to go easy. But a few quick squirts of spray paint made it look fresh and clean.

can you share what the details are on the music box you bought? I ordered the one from Bambu but would love other options

The standard music box has the same 3-hold pattern and dimensions.

I only had filament in orange and green. The print was a blast.

Really Beautiful, very cute. I printed it in Pink for the Pink panther music box ! So nice! Thanks again. I didn't glue the top cover to make like a real piano, so you can remove it and enjoy a different sound ! I printed also one in black for an other music box. Nice gift for my kids.

love this model. only critique would be if it could be a bit more print in place to minimize glue needs. but overall very happy.
