Description

Important: Using a heat-resistant material is critical for this project, especially for the clip that attaches to the vent. Beware of risk of clip deformation after parking under the sun, it may become loose over time (even with PETG). Temperature inside a car's dashboard can easily exceed 65C (150F) on a typical summer day.

Please note than plastic-to-plastic contact will often generate a bit of noise, but personally I don't even notice it when I'm cruising.

If you already printed the V1 version, the only parts that have changed in geometry and that need to be reprinted are: ‘shaft’, ‘nacelle_top’, 'tip', and ‘fan_with_brims’. The default vent clip included, is now printed flat for increased strength.

This miniature jet engine easily attaches to your car's AC vent. As it spins, it releases the fragrance of the elements you place inside its inner container.

Among the things you can place inside here are some options:

  • Freshly roasted coffee beans
  • A cotton with a few drops of essential oils
  • Aromatic plant leafs (lavender, rosemany, etc) - make sure they don't pass through the lid once it's closed

Utilization

  1. Place the aromatic elements inside the recipient and screw the lid on top.
  2. Screw the top cover
  3. Place the fan - the side with extruded circle goes up
  4. Insert the shaft - press until it clicks or hits the bottom. Make sure it is well aligned.
  5. Place the tip of the fan and screw the car vent clip on the rear part. In case the tip doesn't stay atttached try scaling it down slightly.

Important:

  • Printing with a heat-resistant material (i.e, ABS / ASA)
  • If the fan is too lose, which may happen depending on your tolerances try scaling it down slightly.
  • If the vent clip doesn't work for your car, I have included a second design as well.

If that still doesn't work, please feel free to reach out to us in the comments.

  • The fan may not spin at lower air conditioning settings, but a bit of WD40 on the shaft may help.
  • As a general caution: Do not place any ingredient that can be bad for breathing and do not manipulate while driving.
  • Remember that this file is for personal use only - For a commercial license please check our Patreon

Print Settings:

  • 0.16mm layer height for the fan, the rest can be done at 0.2
  • No supports
  • Clean the fan from any burr or imperfections after print to improve the spin.

oh I see well I used glue to stick it in :/. I did try to look at the video provided but there was no part mentioning how the fan installation part was supposed to be

Interesting design. It actually does work when it comes to allowing the smell good stuff to work. However, the fan part of it I think it's more of a cosmetic thing. It doesn't see. To really help at all. But at the same time it doesn't seem to hurt the air flow

Glad that the smell part it's working well. Indeed the fan it's more of a gimmick, it doesn't really make the flow better as you said. Thanks a million for the boost!

The parts print and fit great! There was only a issue with the thin pillars of the base part, when the nozzle broke 1 or 2 of them, but I think that if I have printed it again, it wouldn't happen. The threads screw very easy and hold strong. The vent clip also attaches good to the vent. I've printed the body in thermoreactive PLA, which gets from white to red, when the temperature gets lower, and the fan in blue glow PLA.

Incredible effect, thanks for sharing! I would recommend printing it slower perhaps that kind of filament is a bit harder to print, I have never tried it before. Watch out when parking under the sun, I had to print mine with ABS after 2 of them melted.

Thanks! I put it in the glove box, when parked, surely won't survive 40° C outside :D

Great little add-on! Printed 2 of these with the default profile and has no trouble spinning.

The only downside is that the car gets too hot at noon and the fixed air outlet's clips get too hot and deformed, so they won't hold. The rubber band held it after some sun exposure.

Therefore, it is recommended to use a high-temperature material, at least PETG, with ABS or ASA being preferable

Printed good, works alright. The turbine only starts spinning when the AC is set on medium. and it does make some noise when spinning, nothing excessive. Thanks!

That's absolutely right, I've been noticing the same myself in the last days, thanks for the feedback! I have tried to improve that a bit in the V2 version, although I couldn't find a way to completely neutralize the noise, maybe due to the fact that it's just made out of plastic. Regarding the spin, I have managed to keep a steady spin in the second lowest A/C setting of my car, or even at minimum when I'm on the highway. I should try to get my hands on some smooth bearings and try to make it even better, but at the moment I just tested with 608s and it was not even spinning. If anyone has suggestions let me know! Regards!
