Description

This model is now deprecated - you can find this box along with every size from 1x1 to 5x5 in 3U to 6U heights with both this flat lid and stackable lid at https://makerworld.com/en/models/876200

Gridfinity 1x1 boxes with snap closed lids. The boxes are 3U tall (21mm tall from base to lip, excluding the hinge and lid).

Lids are attached by inserting a length of 1.75mm filament and sealing with a lighter or soldering iron.

The boxes were originally designed to be used as pill boxes for travel, and take magnets in their base and tray as per the Gridfinity standard to keep the boxes together on the tray. Lids snap closed strongly and tightly to keep from accidental opening, but open fairly easily.

The lids are designed to open up to 180°, but can also open up to 90° in place in a tray, making a 2 unit wide tray ideal for boxes back to back or with other Gridfinity items.

The baseplates depicted in the cover photo can be found at https://makerworld.com/en/models/43181

Printed well. Did have to poke out the hole a bit so I could stick the filament through.

I have a double length version at https://makerworld.com/en/models/31646 if that helps!

these are the best I've found. Consider making larger ones; bigger heights or a parametric version?

I actually did make versions from 1x1 all the way up to 7x7, in 3U, 5U and 7U tall boxes. I never got around to publishing all of them on MakerWorld, because the interface doesn't make it very easy to publish so many different versions. I could do every different size on separate plates, but that would mean publishing 147 plates somehow, and Bambu Studio only allows a maximum of 36 plates in a single 3mf. Alternatively I could publish 49 models, each with 3 options for the different heights, but that also feels really clunky. I'm not really sure what the best way of publishing all the different sizes would be. Making it parametric would be ideal (since my original model was parametric to begin with), but I built it in Fusion 360, so it would be a substantial amount of work to rebuild it in OpenSCAD to enable that.

Thanks! Honestly when I uploaded this model I was new to MakerWorld, and I hadn't yet figured out how to upload a model with multiple sizes in a good way, but I've worked that out now :) You can find Baseplates sized from 6x5 down to 1x1 at https://makerworld.com/en/models/43181

Great little box. Especially nice that the hinge and catch don’t protrude, so can be stacked tight against other bins.
