Description

This model still works great, but I there is an improved model that's quicker to print and is more compatible with the AMS Lite.

About

A ground-up rebuild of the excellent Polymaker spool adapter with the following changes:

  • Edge clips removed (These tend to damage spools and are also not needed since the adapter uses the locator pin to lock into place)
  • The Center design has been updated for a more generic spool look (More visually compatible with both Polymaker and Overture brands)
  • The fitting has been slightly adjusted to allow easier swapping between spools without compromising its hold on the spool (less likely to break when being removed)

Printing

Prints well in PLA and PETG. PETG is less brittle and has better layer adhesion, which is beneficial with the very thin edges (to help avoid layer splitting).

I use these for my Polymaker, Overture, and Duramic3D cardboard spools. The notch/hole/plug helps make sure the ring stays on the spool and that it turns even if the outer ring of the cardboard is not a tight fight to the ring of the print. I printed so many of these and I try to print them in the color of the spool I am using so I can see the filament color results when I am grabbing the spool. I printed them at different speeds to see the difference in the quality/shininess of silk filaments.

That’s so smart to print them with the color of the filament you’re putting them on. Why bother printing swatches when you’ve got functional ones? 😄

Plus you can play with printing speeds and temps on 2 for the same roll to see the differences like I did with the silk filament.

looks great! I notice in the picture you have a little black mark on the left side, is this potentially rubber from the rollers? Are these still working for you? does it bind on the lid of the AMS at all? I just ordered my first batch of Polymaker filament. Just want to make sure I’m not going to damage the rubber rollers on my AMS.

Printed quick and easy, much firmer than some of the others I printed. Came out really nice using the CF Diamond plate. Only downside is had some issues when closing the lid on the AMS the spool seemed to get stuck because it was touching the top of the lid. I may not have had it seated all the way but will double check next time I use it.

printed perfectly, I used the handy app to print via the cloud and didn’t have to intervene with the print at all. The only issue I had was printing it in sport mode caused a few bits of extra filament stuck to the outer rim, but they were barely attached and didn’t damage the outer rim.

I went through the whole roll without any issues. But I dont use standart AMS, I modified mine to by hydra AMS. That helps with roll compatibility.
