Print In Place Original Bambu Parts Box

 

When looking for a small parts storage box I didn't find anything I liked. Didn't want a box that looks like you're taking your parts on an expedition through the Amazon rainforest. I also wanted to have a way to store and nicely and safely arrange my spare hot end assemblies. This fits X1C/X1E and P1P/P1S hot end assemblies. Note: The hot ends must have the fan installed on them to fit.

This fits X1C/X1E and P1P/P1S hot end assemblies. Note: The hot ends must have the fan installed on them to fit.

 

FEATURES:

 

Print In Place Hinged Box

 

Hotend Assembly Holders:

  • Has small retainers in the space that lightly but securely holds them in place.
  • The bottom also has little extrusions on the dividers that stick up and press on the hot end assembly when the box is closed so they can't fall out. See the gallery for detailed look.

Compartments:

  • Fillet ‘sweep’ in bottom to aid in taking parts out.

Everything seemed fine until the hinges printed fused. Trying to see if they could be "broken free" just resulted in ripping the hinge off. Still can't seem to get the hinge to move, it seems to be very well fused together. Printed on a P1S with Bambu Lab black matte PLA. Not sure if there is some setting to tweak to fix or improve things to prevent the hinges fusing, but if I find it, I'll either update the rating or upload a profile with the settings tweak. Based on the results of a Torture Toaster I just printed, I don't think this is a design flaw, but rather some tuning on my printer that's needed, as it had some similar issues with parts fusing that shouldn't have.

Oh man, Sorry to see that. I wonder if the matte tends to lock up more? I think only you and one other person that I saw on Printables had that happen. Not sure what filament he used. It works for the overwhelming majority. If you know F360 you could edit the tolerance. You can download that file. I have it designed parametrically so it's just changing the tolerance number and saving out. But I hear you, after a long print to have it finish well but the hinge fuse is a huge letdown. Really sorry that happened! If Makerworld lets you send files directly to other users I could save a new file with a looser tolerance if you want? Unless you've moved on, which I understand.

I don't have Fusion360, unfortunately (can't justify the expense, just been using OnShape, and also do have OpenSCAD). I did have a similar thought about the the matte filament, but don't really have anything else at the moment. when I printed the ball bearings, things needed some loosening (a bit more than indicated), so seems likely it could just be that matte needs a little more space for tolerances. If you have Twitter and are willing to share a version with more tolerance in it, I'll happily give that a shot if you hit me up over there (it's in my profile). Unless you wanted to just upload it here directly as a variant. But happy to give that a shot for sure.

Oh dude, Fusion is free for personal use. Let me know, I won't be able to make the change until tomorrow most likely. If you do decide to get Fusion and try it yourself, go to Parameters and change the "pin clearance". It's set to .25 at the moment I think. Maybe try .35 or .4? I'd also use the split function in Bambu Studio to cut the model apart and only print one section with the hinge to not waste filament. Actually there's two parameters you might want to play with. "pin clearance" and "knuckle clearance". Depends what's fusing in your print.

I love this design! I’m just sad that the hinges were fused. I used Inland Silk PLA and it looks great - I stopped it to transition to a black layer which makes the pockets jump out, but unfortunately this one goes in the recycle pile. if you’re still offering the F360 file so that I can tweak the hinge settings, that would be wonderful!

Oooh, that’s rough, sorry about that. the F360 file should be there to download. Really hope it works out, that silver and black looks nice. Everyone’s prints look so good I might have to reprint mine with some different colors.

Thanks for the file - I tried to figure out how to change the knuckle and pin size as you recommended on another comment and it’s clear I have a lot to learn in f360. should you consider changing this and offering a version with a revised pin, I’d love to give it another shot!!! I did cut the part out and stopped it to see the fit and I believe it’s fusing in both places - I’ve included a couple shots of this so you can see. I also thought it may be the fact that I ran the filament through both flow rate and flow dynamics before the print, so I tried a standard profile for this filament with the same results. It’s fused solid…

My only hesitation of making a file with a looser tolerance is that it would be a complete guess and I wouldn't know if it would work for you. It would be best if you could do it yourself and make a few samples and do some tests. In case you want to give it a go take a look at the screenshot. I really want you to have a successful print! I think I'll make one anyway just to see if it'll work. I don't really want to upload the model here so people get confused and end up with a very loose box. So I'll let you know where/when I upload it.

possibly stupid question, but the hot ends slightly different on p1S? if so will this model work and hold P1S hotness? thanks

Not a stupid question at all. I am actually wondering the same thing! I don’t have a P1P or P1S so I can’t tell you unfortunately. Hopefully someone else can chime in? If you want, you could download the file, import to Bambu Studio and use the split feature to only print one of the hotend holders to test it out. Like a little sample test block. That way you won’t waste time and filament.

I would think it would fit, it seems to hold the fan and I couldn't imagine the nozzle section being larger on the p1s. I'm going to print it later today so I'll report back

Bambu basic, black/white on P1S with PEI textured plate. Builds really nicely, no issues with the hinge fusing on the default profile with brim. Thanks for the design, OP!

Hi, really sorry you’re having problems. There isn’t anything that needs to be changed or fixed to get the hinges printing perfectly. I recommend doing the manual flow calibration and also printing a tolerance test. It might be that your printer is flowing a bit more than it should. A couple people said they had problems when using matte filament so make sure you’re using a good quality pla that’s dry and use my default profile. Also, instead of printing the entire box, I would test just printing a hinge by cutting the box apart in Bambu Studio using the “cut” feature. Saves a lot of time and filament! Really hope you get it working. Might want to consider going to the Bambu forums or on the Bambu subreddit for advice if the above doesn’t work.

I’ve seen others with that diamond pattern plate, on black it looks killer! And wow, it looks like vibration resistant feet? Those couldn’t have fit better.

Nice and useful little model. My second ever printed on the new machine. Hinge and clip work perfectly straight off the printer. Some minor flaws around the logo and text with the multi colour (possibly due to being the machine's first multi colour print). Slightly disappointed that it has nowhere for the large Allen key that comes with the machine, but everything else fits well so far. So happy that I can make such useful kit right out of the gate.

Thanks and overall it looks good. But maybe your first layer is under extruding a little bit? Seems like in some areas it’s not filling in perfectly, even outside the logo. You might want to consider doing a manual flow calibration in Bambu Studio for this filament. I’ll consider making an update with a space for the Allen key though, thank you!

Quite possibly. Was literally the second print I did the night I got the machine. Printed direct from the app. Tweaked nothing. Just assembled and hit go.

You shouldn’t have to do anything as far as tweaking with these machines. They really do work right out of the box. If I were you I’d just inspect the first layers on my prints going forward and if you think there’s a problem then either head to the Bambu forums or open a support ticket with them. All that being said, the hinge printing well shows that your machine has really good tolerances, so that’s great!

Greetings! First, I want to say great model and thank you for uploading. Unfortunately, I had some adhesion problems and both the top and bottom of the box flew off the print plate (Bambu's PEI textured plate) after a couple corners starter pealing off and the printing head knocked them off. I am not sure what I did wrong, went with the default settings and left the door of my P1S open when printing using Bambu Lab basic PLA filament. I added a picture I was able to snap just before the bottom flew off. I would certainly like to try it again, but would appreciate any pointers on what I should look into to avoid the same issue. Many thanks!

Hi, sorry about the warping! First, awesome that you took a picture, that helps! Second, it looks like you printed the profile that doesn’t have a brim. I would use the profile that does have one. It’s the first profile in the list. What I’d also do first is clean your print plate if you haven’t already. Use warm water and dish soap and only hold the plate by the edges when you put it back on the bed. Even oils from our hands is enough to give adhesion problems sometimes. Hope this helps and let me know if it works!

I realized that shortly after commenting yesterday, not only had I not used brim, but also I forgot to change the plate profile to mine before sending to printer, i.e. it was sent as a cool smooth plate whereas I should have changed to textured heated plate. I tried again (using 10 mm brims because, you know, one can never be too safe haha) and it worked like a charm. Thanks for your support and prompt response!
