Description

Many small spools will not fit on the AMS Rotary Spool Holders; so I created a cap that clips into the end of the yellow posts (post numbers 2 and 4, with the hex shaped interface) that stops the spool from falling off. Fits spool ID as small as 34 mm.

I see someone made a design for posts 1 and 3 here AMS Lite universal small spool securing cap by Ludo - MakerWorld.
Let me know how theirs fits.

UPDATE: New more flexible design uploaded here https://makerworld.com/en/models/593685#profileId-515507

If you have issues with the clips breaking, try this one.  The clipping force is not as strong, but it fits great and will keep those smaller spools on.

It sadly breaks with little effort, even thought I still can use it because it fits perfectly and stays in place. Thank you

Really sorry to hear that. Do you think the tabs were a bit too wide and interfered with the hex shape? I have been concidering updating the design, but not too sure what the exact issue is.

The piece fits perfectly but the tabs are too fragile. I don`t know how to fix it since I'm new to 3d printing. Make them thinner so they are more flexible? Or make them stronger? (bigger section, petg instead of pla,.. dunno. Anyway, without the tabs it still works.

Ok, if it fits well, then it seems that the material is too brittle. I am thinking of posting another design that is less likely to break. Would you be willing to try it on your machine?

The nose is already broken when you put it in lightly - printed with Bambu Lab PETG, maybe I should try it with normal PLA

Thanks for the pictures. That is unusual for it to break like that. I have not tried it in PETG. I would have guessed it should have been fine, but I guess not. If you get to the bottom of what the problem might be, let me know.

A little delicate but it works. Printed with PLA, I'm going to try TPU

This is a great solution, so tiny yet effective, and does what is meant to do. Thanks!

When inserting, the snaps break off.

Works Great. Much better than the clip I tired to use to hold it on. I wonder if you would consider adding to it with a cylinder going from the spool (18mm) to the 250g spool (41.5mm) to help hold it in place a little better. I printed the 'AMS Lite Universal Spindle' by Jeff Smith but it pushes it way too far out. Leave out the Spool Claw and go from the spindle to inner diameter of the reel and use the keyway to hold it on the spool. It might even retract after a filament change if connected to the spindle. I tried to do something in Bambu Studio but I am too new to get it centered properly and make it join correctly. Just an idea :-)

Unfortunately, I don’t have the AMS Lite anymore (returned with the A1 as part of the heatbead issue). However, I’d be willing to design a versing as you discribed, but I won’t be able to check the fit. Can you share a screenshot of your design?

As I learn more about this and Fusion360 I designed one and posted on Makerworld. I credited you for your design as part of what is needed. It is at https://makerworld.com/en/models/230520. Very simple but helps keep the spool from moving all around and possible tangle. I am sure you could do a better job putting it together and easier to assemble but this works for now.

@vinfer Excellent. Fusion360 is great! It is the best feeling to imagine something, design it in Fusion, then bring it to real life!
