Description

I really like the design of the original “AirTag with Paracord Loop”, but the holes for the paracord are just to small for mine.

So I almost rebuilt the original design and increased the diameter for the paracord to 4mm.

Materials

  • Filament - For most use cases I would recommend PETG.
  • Paracord - I used this one from Amazon but any other paracord with 4mm diameter will do the job just fine. Cut off a 15cm to 20cm piece and secure the ends.
  • Glue - To secure the paracord in place, use any type of CA glue (Cyanacrylat). Don't use too much and let it dry before continuing printing

How to print?

  • 0.16mm - Layer Height
  • 3 - Walls
  • 3 - Top/Bottom Layers
  • 20% - Infill

Make sure to pause the print at around 5mm for inserting the paracord. After you dropped in some drops of CA glue in the middle and back of the paracord shaft, firmly press in the paracord. Now you can resume the print as normal.

Some (important) Tips

Applying the CA glue

Beware when applying the glue. If you add to much glue it can drip on your print bed. If you are unsure just put some paper or tape on the bed in front of the model.

Additionally, give the glue 1 or 2 minutes to dry a little bit out. This makes sure the paracord doesn‘t get pulled out by the hotend. If your glue takes longer to dry you probably didn't use Superglue (Cyanacrylat glue, german: Sekundenkleber) or used too much glue.

Tolerances

At 100% model scale it should be a snug fit. If the tolerances are to tight, just scale the model to 101%.

I didnt have any luck with inserting the paracord mid way. I ended up with a mess because the nozzle pulled the glued in paracord away and dragged it across my plate. I printed again and this time skipped the pause and printed all the way. Once finished, I dropped glue into the hole and shoved the paracords in. Right now the glue is drying so we will have to see how it holds up. The model is a solid 5/5 but the instructions almost caused a catastrophe by almost ruining my build plate.

hey @TheBestLurius it‘s very unfortunate that the classic way didn’t work out for you, but i am happy that printing it full way works out for you. Out of curiosity, which glue are you using?

Air Tag fits perfectly! Tried to put rope in pause but failed. At the end just glued rope and pressed into the holes.

Great print, thanks! It's very strong and fits perfectly. It also works with the cheap Silvercrest Smart Tags from LIDL at 101% print size.

I'm new to BambuLab printer and Maker World and can't seem to download models for A1 that don't require re-slicing. They work from my phone app but not computer app.
