Description

Double-Sided Vacuum Block with Side Connection

Key features

  • Double-sided sealed surfaces to clamp a flat workpiece on a flat table
  • 3 different versions
    • Single port (e.g., as end piece or for single usage)
    • Dual port for daisy chaining multiple blocks (180° port orientation)
    • Dual port for daisy chaining multiple blocks (90° port orientation)
  • Connection of the vacuum tubing from the side (other variants available as separate download, e.g., Vacuum Block for 20 & 19 mm Bench Dog Holes, Slim & long version, Compact version)
  • Fits standard connectors for vacuum tubing
  • Multiple blocks can be nested into each other (including the pneumatic fitting) for space saving, efficient storage

Storage solution available

  • Compatible with the Loc Block French Cleat Holder (for 4 pcs)

French Cleat Holder (fits all 84 mm versions)
Additional long & slim and compact versions available
Additional 20/19 mm bench dog version available

Additional hardware required

  • 5 mm foam seal (e.g., https://amzn.eu/d/6fLlTmm)
  • PC6-01 pneumatic fittings (e.g., https://amzn.eu/d/0bj1HB2)
  • Useful starter set including pneumatic fittings and tubes (e.g., https://amzn.eu/d/br2hIfl)
  • CA glue for closing the foam seal
  • Vacuum pump
    • I would recommend a strong version with 500+ Watts if you are planning serious work like clamping for sanding or routing. I am the using this one.
    • If you want to try it out and have a fun project, you can build the smaller Filament Vacuum Pump (this version will not able to drive more than 1-2 blocks but is great to create a filament vacuum for storage)

Installation instructions

  • Print
  • Screw in the pneumatic fitting (gentle force, don't over-tighten, keep it straight) - Important: This fit can be a bit tight depending on the output from your printer. Stop if you feel a medium/strong resistance. I heavily recommend to heat up the metal thread part of the fitting and the threaded hole of the block for a few moments using a heat gun or torch (really short, don't burn the part). After the heating the fitting should screw in with limited resistance. This will prevent potential layer separation (which otherwise might happen immediately or over some time)
  • Add foam seals on both sides; recommended to cut the foam around 45 degrees before glueing together with CA glue to make a stronger joint

do these have holes in the other side to daisy chain 4 or 5 together using only 1 main line into the first block?

Right now there is only 1 entry port and you need external T- or Y-connectors to have multiple pieces connected. I will release a daisy-chain version with entry ports on 2 sides as additional print profiles next week

The daisy chain versions are now available. Make sure you have a good pump for driving 4-5 blocks (a small 5-24 V pump will not be sufficient, you will need one with higher throughput)

What is this even for? 😅

they are hold down blocks. they suction down to your work bench and your work piece to hold it in place while you sand it router the edges or whatever.

This is meant as work piece holder, e.g., when sanding a wooden piece. Often standard clamps are in the way or inconvenient, and a vacuum clamp is comfortable to use. With some experience (and a very reliable pump & system), it can be also used to clamp wooden panels for edge routing. Right now I am designing a housing for a small vacuum pump + power supply + fan and will release it in around 2-3 weeks. After that there will be more usage instructions as well.

Generic ABS- I had some heat warping. Bambu PLA worked great.

I'm surprised you don't have more tool organization like socket set organizers. I would also lean more into the vacuum stuff. Round, different sizes. Perhaps TPU suction cups?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions - inspired me to put a few ideas on the roadmap. In the meantime I released more vacuum related stuff (different sizes) and a more industrial CNC vacuum clamping system

Great model! Would it be possible to get one with 1/2" holes? BOOST

Thanks a lot for the feedback and the boost. Originally I was planning for a 1/2" version but realized it does not work with the 20 mm total block height (thread would cut into the sealing area). The 20 mm was the height which I originally designed for the bench dog version. Happy to make a 1/2" version but height will need to be around 25 mm. Would that be ok?

The multiple port variants work great - thank you! I created this plug so I can use them at the end of a run or individually. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1284167-1-4-od-air-connector-plug#profileId-1312911

I love this model. Can I ask what software you used to create it?

Thanks a lot for your feedback. This model only requires basic CAD functionalities and can be created with almost any commercial or free CAD software (e.g., Shapr3D, Fusion360, OnShape, FreeCAD, SketchUp, ....)
