Description

Designed for our 3D Map Collection.

This frame is printed as four members that snap together with the printed inserts. Features:

  • Smoother top surface by printing the frame members on their edges.
  • Built-in nail holes for wall hanging.
  • Fast prints using minimal material.
  • Larger possible sizes. Frame members can be oriented diagonally on the build plate, allowing for larger frame and 3D map sizes.
  • Multiple profiles and textures (coming soon).

Steps: 1. Identify your 3D Map size (X and Y dimension) 2. Scale the frame. The frames can be scaled to a custom size in the slicer using our Online Frame Scaling Calculator For example, the default frame for 180mm models is 180.2mm. To accomodate a 188mm model with a 0.2mm margin for fit, the scaling factor is 104.44%. 3. Slice, print and snap together! Add a small bead of glue to the ledge of the frame and set the 3D map inside to cure in place.

Nice frame, but why is the nailhole filled?

I didn't look through the layers in the slicer and just hit print, got it all printed out and now I'm very confused as well. looks like they forgot to make that piece a negative value to make the hole, and it got left as a positive (filled) value.

yes, mine snaps together and after a little playing in the slicer I cleared the holes to be able to hang it on the wall. the snap fit is a pretty tight snap. you may have to recalibrate your filament so you are not over extruding, or it may be just that little bit too much.

Brilliant idea, thank you for the model. Rectangular frames are finally possible. It's only puzzling why the holes for the hooks on the long side (200mm) aren't open

will this become customizable for different picture formats, too? like 16:9 or completely other formats?

Working on that! We're developing a whole collection of frame aspect ratios, profiles, and textures

Hi - wondered if you have a version where you can add straight panels in order to extend the sizes of the frame?

Hi, I scaled your file in only the length to better fit what I'm trying to frame. It did scale down but when I go to assemble it, the angle is no longer 45 and instead is an obtuse angle. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but as you designed this, you may know exactly what I've done (lol), and know instantly what the fix is. Thx.

Hi! This model is only designed to scale uniformly (X Y and Z) and so the original square aspect ratio would be maintained. You could import frames of multiple lengths (e.g., 200mm and 240mm) to create rectangles. However, this frame isn't designed to scale to any aspect ratio. I am working on a version that will be infinitely scalable, but it's not released yet :)
