Description

Mini Train - Functional Future City Diorama

This is the sixth Mini Train Diorama and this is my approach for a future city design. Green meadows without streets or cars and clean big buildings with a lot of space. In the heart of the city is the newest technology, the particle accelerator power plant that generates clean electricity while spinning.

The design includes a mono rail train and large curved buildings which are integrated into the track.

In the GIF you see the additional motor box in action but as in the other dioramas, you can turn the hand-wheel on the outside to let the little train drive.

The power plant is moving, as well. And you have 2 options. Attractive and repulsive magnets:

  1. It's pulled downwards by a helix and repelled by the magnets, making it spin really fast.
  2. If you insert the magnets the opposite direction the power plant slides up and down, looks like a pounding heart.❤

→ Decide what you like

The new Future Track & Train is 100% compatible to the previous designs.

All printed parts are designed to get an good result with a 0,4 nozzle and this time i tried to use less colors and reduced color changes for a fast printing time.

More is coming… stay tuned….check the “Mini Train collection” and leave a follow👍

Printing:

Note that some parts are very small. Good adhesion is necessary!

Following PLA Basic Filaments are used

White

Turquoise

Bambu Green

Brown

Black

Silver (just for the track →brown, cyan or black works also)

Other colors are possible of course, look what you have in stock.

I think it could be easy done with single color, if you want to color from hand.

I printed with a 0,4mm nozzle! Iam very pleased with the result but you can try a 0,2 nozzle as well.

Assembly:

*watch this video from previous design:

→Insta

You need 6pcs round 4x2 magnets magnets for the train and 8pcs  4x2 magnets for the power plant.

  • Insert 3pcs  Magnets in the train and wagon with same polarity
  • Insert Magnets in the 3 pins all with same polarity but opposite direction than before! The Pins must attract the train
  • Insert 4 magnets into the hand-wheel same polarity and same direction like the pins
  • Now two option:
    • Fast Spinning power plant: → Insert 4 magnets same polarity and same direction like the pins
    • Pumping power plant: → Insert 4 magnets same polarity and same direction like the train
Insert the pins, use the train to hold them in  place.
Arrange the pins so that they are caught by the wheel and press it into position
  • Terrain on top and press trees in the holes. You can add a bit of glue to combine.
  • Place the power plant in the middle
  • Place the train to the magnetic position and have fun 😀👍

I hope you like this little project.

Having printed quite a few of your designs already we got on this right away and it's great! A couple of things we noticed: - Fitment on magnets were great this time, had a lot less trouble getting them in. - No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't get the fast spinning method to work. Maybe magnets we have are not strong enough? Pumping works though! - Had to shave quite a bit of material off of the trees for them to insert, but once they were in, they held the plates really well. No need for glue on this one.

Thank you very much for your feedback. My trees are a tiny bit to loose to hold without glue. Maybe the strong fitting trees and the non working spinning function indicates the same error. Is it possible that the filament is being pressed too hard onto the first layer or the filament calibration is a bit of? You can try to reprint the reactor with a fresh filament calibration and maybe with additional elephant foot and/or hole compensation.

my magnets didnt do much either. i think the motor helps maybe. using neo magnets too.

Here is the second print Additional work was required due to a gap, but it functioned exceptionally well As you advised, lubricating the magnet's track improved movement

The diorama is nice, but for some reason the carts are catapulted one by one in sharp turns. In another diorama there was no problem.

Thanks for feedback, can you have a look at the inner edges of the buildings? Maybe they are not clean enough.

It printed great. The description mentions Cyan which is what I used, but I think the pictures and profile actually want Turquoise. Also, I am curious why there are two power plants printed on the plate? Is it so you could have the two different styles and swap them out?

I think you can simply scale by 125% to use the 5x2. Give a try and let us know😃👍

Just printing this. I want the center to jump and spin. So polarity directions will be the same direction on the pins to trains technically so in confused which way to put the magnets on the tower :( can someone dumb it down to me?

The 4 magnets on the base uses the same polarity direction than the 3 pins. And the 4 in the reactor should repel the 4 from the base. In principle, all 8 magnets for the spinning function, must be inserted into the parts with the same polarity side.
