Description

Description

A Factorio-inspired toy conveyor belt you can pick up and play with, kind of like a fidget spinner. It has a Transport Belt aesthetic from the Factorio game.

Watch the design video to see how it was made!

Printing

Print the 4 plates in the “plates” file with PLA. The settings should be dialed in for scaling (to offset shrinkage), infill, and supports. The plate names correspond to the color and layer height the plate should be printed with. For e.g. "Light Gray 20" reads "Print with light gray filament w/ 0.20 layer height".

There are a few sizes of shaft key STL files (ShaftKey385, ShaftKey390, ShaftKey395) you might also want to print in case it's too tricky to press-fit them in.

I used the colors below (outlined in red) from Bambu Labs.

Assembling

Watch the assembly portion of the design video for assembly instructions (assembly starts at 5:27)

If there is too much friction between the shafts and the side rail holes, you can dab a bit of Super Lube (I used 92003), and it should work great.

Let me know if you have any questions or if there are any issues. Happy to make adjustments if needed!

Hey, could you help? I am trying to insert the hand crank but there is no hole for it...

Hmm, is the drive shaft (the shaft with the square hole on top in the photo) placed with its hole facing the side rail's hole? The only other thing I can think of is that there is support material (the green stuff) from the print that needs to be removed that is in the way? Does the side rail have a hole after it is printed? It definitely should. Let me know if it isn't one of those issues...

Here's the part of the assembly video that shows the shaft placement: https://youtu.be/uJ_CC4abBj0?t=475

What do you mean? They all have square holes that you put those cuboid rods into. Sorry if I'm just being a bit stupid! :D

is nice model but pain to assemble, tiny fragile dowels break too easy and difficult to install even with lube. fits on sprockets far too tight, did not go all way in even when Dent hammer very hard, would recommend have shaft come built with key already so less hammering. but very good engineering, CAD skills good, you inspire Dent to design own conveyor belt.

Sorry to hear that! Which dowels are you referring to? And curious which filaments you used. When I printed an all white filament one even the difference in filament changed the sizes a little bit. 100% agree about the shaft key.

tiny connector pins that link belt together, Dent used esun grey PLA+ not Bambu so maybe that did cause problem. maybe pins could be made thicker for better strength and printed in one piece upright.

Gotcha. Even w/ the Bambu filament it was a tight fit for the sprockets, I'll tweak it a bit and see if it can be a little smaller. I like the thicker pin idea. It would be good to know the minimum diameter you could get away with if printing a pin upright for future projects too. Thanks for the feedback, I was curious how it would go on other printers/filaments.

Great print! Default shaft key was a little loose so I added some double sided tape to set it to the shaft and the sprocket

this would be super cool to have this be part of a analog factory part series (analog meaning like you have to move everything by hand instead of buying motors and batteries). anyway the series would continue until you made like a full functioning factory. Just a suggestion I know 3d designing is hard but I thought it could be cool.

I like the series idea. I’m designing an analog (hand cranked) robot to pick up a small box too. Is there anything else in particular you would want to see?

maybe like something to send the packages off to be delivered like a conveyors belt attachments that send it off to the “outside” or just a truck. another thought also maybe adding a kind of dispenser to put the boxes onto the conveyor belt. One other thing possibly making multiple conveyor belts with different things or attachments like a scanner a stamper etc. These are all just thoughts to give you ideas so I’m completely fine if you don’t do any of them. Thanks for considering my idea! :)

Factorio, one of the best games! Exceptionally precise and outstanding quality! Unfortunately, the crank cannot rotate because it hits the ground. A truly excellent print! Thank you
