Description

Note: I recommend not using Silk filament for the Helix.

Note 2: AMS Profiles work without AMS - It will only print the one color

The Design

My Latest addition to the V3 Series is here. A full height helix at 179mm (180mm causes issues) with an inner plumbob

The dimensions of the Helix are approximately: 179mm x 46mm x 46mm

The dimensions of the Plumbob are:  68mm x 32mm x 32mm

Clicking the inner part should be fairly intuitive, but i can add images if needed.

Let me know if you experience any issues.

Printing

I recommend not using Silk for the Helix. The build plate needs to be clean for good adhesion

The Helix uses Variable Layer Height to ensure a good finish.

Please ensure filament is relatively dry (wet filament seems to have a poor surface finish)

Once printed let the build plate cool before trying to remove.

My Work

After many years in Engineering, I've just decided to try and follow my childhood dream of becoming of a Creative Designer.

A Creative Designer of what? No idea! Right now I really like puzzles, mechanisms and kinetic sculptures so that's where I'm going to focus my efforts.

Follow the instructions and don’t use silk. mine broke in the plate but when I printed with regular PLA it printed fine

Ah thats annoying. I too have had an issue with silk filaments being too fragile for this design. I had recommended in the description not using silk for the helix. Fustrating but I hope this helps

I couldn't get mine to work because the little ball was too tight of a fit.

Attempt inserting the cone from the base and lightly lubricate the helix with petroleum jelly After a few attempts, it should work considerably better The profile has been printed many times previously Only two similar issues have been reported thus far Hopefully, this will resolve your issue as well

I finished this print in Petg translucent blue and it looks great. My only problem is the interior shape does not want to slide down the helix all the way, without some force.

I haven't tried in petg, have you got an image of the over hang area (the bit which could become rough)
